Sfruttare la possibilità di sopraelevare il
grande numero di edifici di altezza ridotta
del progetto per l’Eixample di Cerdà è una
pratica che si sta ampiamente diffondendo
e porta risultati architettonici interessanti.
Il progetto di Miba Architects, realizzato
da La Casa por el Tejado, è stato uno dei
primi interventi e si distingue per essere
composto interamente da elementi
prefabbricati: un sistema costruttivo
estremamente leggero in pannelli di
legno che ha consentito la realizzazione
dei due nuovi appartamenti in soli due
giorni. L’intervento ha quindi previsto
la realizzazione di due ulteriori piani e il
rinnovamento delle facciate e degli spazi
comuni del precedente edificio.
All’interno degli appartamenti, di 100 e
110 mq rispettivamente, zona giorno e
zona notte sono divise dal filtro creato
dalle ampie vetrate che perimetrano il
prolungamento del patio dell’edificio,
soluzione che ha permesso di portare
luce anche al centro delle residenze. Gli
appartamenti, stretti infatti tra i muri dei due
vicini edifici, si sviluppano longitudinalmente
e sono dotati solo di due affacci su strada.
Le nuove facciate si presentano come una
reinterpretazione in chiave contemporanea
di quelle tipiche dell’Eixample: il prospetto
su strada presenta pannelli metallici stirati
che scorrendo su binari possono celare
o rivelare le finestre, disposte in asse
con le aperture sottostanti. Sul fronte
che dà sul cortile sono disposte invece
tapparelle a rullo per l’oscuramento delle
finestre e la chiusura totale della terrazza
dell’appartamento dell’ultimo piano.
Adding additional floors to the low-rise
buildings in Cerdà’s original Eixample district
plan is a widespread practice that has
resulted in some truly interesting
architectural solutions.
The Miba Architects project for developer La
Casa por el Tejado was one of the first such
designs. The project’s hallmark feature is
that it is made entirely out of pre-fabricated
elements, adopting an extremely lightweight
wood panel construction system that made
it possible to erect the two new apartments
in just two days. The project also envisaged
the construction of two further floors and
renovating the façade and common spaces
in the previously-existing building.
The living and sleeping quarters in the
apartments, which are respectively 100 and
110 sq. m in size, are divided by a filter of
large panes of glass around the extension of
the building’s patio, in a solution that lets
light flow into the apartments’ cores.
Enclosed by the walls of the neighboring
buildings, the apartments are laid out
longitudinally, featuring just two prospects
over the street.
The new façades are a contemporary
reinterpretation of typical Eixample façades:
the street overlook consists of expanded
metal panels that run on rails to reveal or
conceal the windows, which are set in such
a way as to match the windows on the
lower floors. The courtyard-facing side
features roller blinds to black out the
windows and hermetically close the terrace
that belongs the top-floor apartment.

energetiche, garantendosi anche la classificazione energetica A+.
A thoughtful, clever project that has achieved an excellent A+ energy
classification, this project is a highly-efficient template for adding floors
to a typical Eixample district building in Barcelona.
