FLUSH MOUNT/HUGGER FANS
This type of mount is recommended for 8' ceilings. By
eliminating the downrod, the Hugger option saves 4"-6" in
length between the fan’s motor housing and the ceiling.
The National Electric Code requires that all fan blades be a
minimum of 7' above the floor. Many Visual Comfort & Co. fans
include a dual mount canopy.
CLOSE-TO-CEILING FANS
For 8'-10' ceilings, a downrod from 4"-8" is installed between
the ceiling canopy and the fan. Installing the blades further
away from the ceiling allows for more air circulation and fan
efficiency. Allow a minimum of 7' clearance from the floor to
the lowest point on the fan blade.
EXTENDED DOWNROD FANS
For ceilings 10' and above, such as great rooms, lofts,
and expansive entryways, a longer downrod is recommended.
We offer downrod lengths of 12", 18", 24", 36", 48", 60" and 72".
See page 236 for more information on downrods.
SLOPED CEILINGS
For ceilings pitched 25°-45°, a sloped ceiling canopy must be
installed instead of the standard fan canopy—allowing the fan to
hang straight. Visual Comfort & Co. offers slope canopy kits in a
variety of finishes, see page 229 for more information.
Mounting Options
When choosing a ceiling fan for your space, you’ll want at least 18" to 24" of clearance on all sides. In large spaces,
another option can be to go with two smaller fans.
