Quella di Twils è una storia molto italiana. Un’azienda
radicata nel territorio, a filiera corta, che alimen-
ta una rete di fornitori locali e si fa alimentare da
loro, in un circuito virtuoso potenzialmente infini-
to. Circolare prima che la parola diventasse di mo-
da. Eccellente nel saper fare prima del voler dire.
Twils è un po’ come un albero: si prende
cura di quello che produce e le sta intorno, ha ra-
dici solide ma quando serve guarda verso il cielo.
Un’azienda che produce imbottiti e che ci è arriva-
ta per la via più difficile: quella costruita sull’espe-
rienza di un saper fare vero. Perfezionando l’arte
dell’imbottitura dei cuscini, poi dei letti e, in ulti-
ma battuta, mettendo a prova la propria sartoria-
lità, per una manifattura pregiata e gusto per i tes-
suti di qualità nel mondo del living.
That of Twils is a very Italian story. A company root-
ed in the territory, with a short supply chain linked
to a mutually fed network of local suppliers, in a po-
tentially endless virtuous circuit. Circular before the
word became of common use. Excellent in knowing
how to do before saying it.
Twils is like a tree: it takes care of what
it produces and what is around it, it has solid roots
but when needed is capable of looking up towards
the sky. A company that produces upholstered fur-
niture and that has come a very long way in the most
challenging way: the way built on the experience of
knowing how to do things. Perfecting the art of pad-
ding cushions, crafting beds and ultimately, testing
their tailoring, aiming at fine manufacturing and in-
stinct for quality fabrics in the world of living.
Luca Nichetto
nasce a Venezia nel 1976, dove il suo
talento artistico trae ispirazione dalla famosa indu-
stria vetraria di Murano, che dava lavoro ai membri
della sua famiglia. La sua carriera inizia ai tempi
della scuola, quando trascorreva le vacanze ven-
dendo i suoi disegni alle fabbriche locali, prima di
proseguire gli studi presso l’Istituto Statale d’Arte
della città per poi laurearsi in disegno industriale
presso l’Università Iuav di Venezia (IUAV) nel 1998.
L’anno successivo inizia a lavorare per il vetraio
muranese Salviati, diventando in seguito product
designer e consulente per l’azienda di illuminazio-
ne Foscarini. Nel 2006 decide di aprire il proprio
studio in città: Nichetto Studio. Cinque anni dopo
arriva un’altra svolta importante nella sua carriera:
si trasferisce in Svezia, a Stoccolma, per aprire lì
un secondo studio, combinando il suo stile italiano
con lo spirito svedese di modernità e sostenibilità.
Nel corso degli anni, Luca è stato art direc-
tor per molti marchi internazionali di design e si è gua-
dagnato la reputazione di designer multidisciplinare.
Ha tenuto conferenze e seminari in diverse uni-
versità, è stato professore di design allo IUAV e
ha fatto parte di diverse giurie di vari concorsi
internazionali di design. Il suo lavoro è spesso
presente in prestigiose mostre in tutto il mondo
ed è stato oggetto di retrospettive in città tra cui
Londra, New York e Pechino. I suoi progetti inno-
vativi e altamente ricercati gli sono valsi una serie
impressionante di premi internazionali per design
che spaziano da prodotti, accessori e mobili all’ar-
chitettura, alle mostre e al branding.
Luca Nichetto
was born in Venice in 1976, where his ar-
tistic talents were inspired by the famous Murano
glassmaking industry, which employed members of
his family. His career effectively started in his school-
days, where holidays were spent selling his designs
to local factories, before he went on to study at the
city’s Istituto Statale d’Arte and then take a degree
in industrial design at the local Università Iuav di
Venezia (IUAV), graduating in 1998. The following year,
he joined the Murano-based glassmaker Salviati,
later becoming a product designer and consultant
for lighting company Foscarini. He took the leap to
setting up his own practice in the city, Nichetto Studio,
in 2006. Five years later came another major turn in
his career, when he moved to Stockholm, Sweden,
to start his family and opened a second studio there,
combining his Italian flair with the Swedish spirit of
modernity and sustainability.
Over the years, Luca has served as art
director for many international design brands and
gained a reputation as a multidisciplinary design-
er. He has lectured and led workshops at several
universities, including serving as a professor of
design at the IUAV, and has sat on juries for vari-
ous international design competitions. His work is
often featured in prestigious exhibitions worldwide
and has been the subject of retrospectives in cities
including London, New York and Beijing. His highly
researched, innovative projects have earned him an
impressive array of international awards for designs
that range from products, accessories and furniture
to architecture, exhibition design and branding.
