It is always fascinating to see how the design and industrial worlds interact. In this case, it all began with an
(excellent) idea: to give the headboard – and more specifically the back of the headboard – a broader role to play, thus presenting
a totally original vision of a normally neglected part of the bed. Instead of pushing it up against a wall, this item of furniture should
be put in the middle of the room and walked around so every part of it can be used. Meaningful items such as books and lights play
a key role in the symbolic world around every bed. Canalgrande is a trove of personal, private treasures.
“The discussions led the design down a new path and gave it fresh meaning: more than just a simple bed, it
now bears witness to the wealth of traditions and endless experimentation during the company’s journey. It tells a new story, as
the debate between designer and entrepreneur unfolds. Airy wooden bedside tables are built into the headboard and a feather
becomes a gondola, getting cradling us as we drift off to sleep.”
