Its brand is synonymous with luxury lighting and furniture products and it supplies many of the most prestigious hotel, yacht and residential projects around the world. Porta Romana lighting was established in 1988, and Porta Romana lighting tackle the question of style by creating new and challenging designs.
Porta Romana began life in a tiny London workshop. From the beginning, the ambition was to create beautiful and inspiring pieces that would be loved. Good fortune came in finding skilled British craftspeople to create those quirky and original designs. With each new collection comes the challenge of creating new finishes. From convincingly aged plaster, to perfecting the patina of a mussel shell, each new finish must work in harmony with the design. From sculptors to ceramicists, from lacquering to glazing, every expert hand and eye is focused on the crafting of something beautiful and enduring.
This year Porta Romana is celebrating its 30th anniversary. To celebrate their anniversary the company has released a selection of new products and finishes, such as: Trinket Table. Fusing exquisite honeycombed glass with a brass accent, light reflects from each facet of this petite glass sphere table lamp. Mini Orbit Wall Light mirrors the contemporary character of the Orbit collection. A mould blown, milk glass sphere, luminous when lit, sits within a sophisticated gold frame work. Large Weave Ceiling. A delicate interwoven lattice of metal work sets this ceiling mount apart from any other. Perfect for hallways and low ceilings Weave emits a sophisticated glow of light through a frosted perspex diffuser.
Probably the most identifiable design of Porta Romana’s collection is the Duck Feet Table Lamp. The inspiration for the lamp came from two sources, a surrealist exhibition showing the Oppenheim crane leg table shortly followed by the sighting of a rare fur table lamp. The two combined gave birth to the idea of the duck lamp and later a visit to a couture show finished the detail with an ostrich feather dress.
