PROGETTI DI DESIGN 09
Once an emblem of simplicity, nowadays
the sideboard stands boldly in
sophisticated living spaces, fusing function
and style in harmonious, contemporary
equilibrium. In his collaboration with
Pianca, Pier Luigi Frighetto reinterprets
this furniture type with an innovative vision
that enhances the company collection and
sets new standards in interior design. With
surfaces and lines that communicate solid
build and elegance, the Mambo sideboard
embodies Frighetto’s design philosophy,
with its trademark meticulous attention
to detail. Inspired by the series of black
MDF occasional tables, Mambo has a
distinctive raised perimeter standing above
the top surface, which creates a distinctive
visual identity and solid contemporary
look. The balance between elegance
and functionality is apparent in cleverly
concealed interior spaces and drawers
that are both practical and at the same
time preserve the beauty of the design.

— Q&A
— Do you still sketch by hand?
Yes, I still sketch by hand. A pencil is the
tool that allows me to capture emotions
and intuitions, which are then transformed
into my designs.
— If you had to compare your design style
to an art movement, what would it be?
My style does not refer to any specific
artistic movement, despite appreciating
the power of Brutalism and the perfection
of Modern art. I prefer to follow a personal
vision of my own, which comes from a mix
of different inspirations.
— What is the strangest or most unusual
thing that has inspired you for a design?
There is nothing banal that inspired me.
