PROGETTI DI DESIGN 09
The Enea table fully represents
Luciano Marson’s dynamic design style,
focussing on the idea of twisting which
features in the table legs. This element
recalls the perpetual movement of a helix,
transforming static into dynamic using
solid wood. This creation was inspired
by an episode from his childhood.
“I was just a boy when I first had the
idea of a twisting helix, whilst playing
with an ice cream”, recalls Marson.
Marson’s ability for innovation is reflected
in his approach to designing the Enea
table, where every detail is considered
in order to create something simple,
yet technically sophisticated. The legs
of Enea, constructed with a twisting
movement that creates a unique visual
and structural effect, express with
precision the combination of skilled
craftsmanship and innovation that
defines the Pianca spirit.
This synthesis represents the union
between Marson’s passion for design
and the company’s skill in producing
complex, futuristic designs.

— Q&A
— Do you still sketch by hand?
I never sketch by hand. In the past three
years, I have started working with young
designers on the computer, becoming with
them the ‘pencil’ that I have never used
on its own. In the past, when I was involved
in design, I made models directly, first
on a smaller scale and then natural size.
— If you had to compare your design style
to an art movement, what would it be?
It is difficult to choose just one. I went
through different periods, from Cubism to
Kinetic Art. In Pianca, my work has a neo-
classical contemporary style, aligned with
the company’s identifying values.
— What is the strangest or most unusual
thing that has inspired you for a design?
A shaft of sunlight at dusk illuminated a
detail on a design, allowing me to literally
see it in another light, with a different
appearance. Creating that design led to
me winning my second Compasso d’Oro
with Toyo Ito.
