PROGETTI DI DESIGN 08
Federica Biasi’s geometric designs
are a challenge that Pianca
enthusiastically embraces, exploring
technological solutions aligned with
innovative design. An important example
of this philosophy is Lina, a chair with
clean yet highly distinctive lines.
Lina captures the purest essence
of contemporary design charged with
meaning and strikes a perfect balance
between decoration and simplicity.
Its simplicity reveals an elaborately
complex design and idea and transmits
a profound sense of renewal via a process
of adding and subtracting. The elegant
flaring of the legs gives the chair a late
1940s feel, transforming it into a work
of art, not just an industrial model,
combining tradition and contemporary
vision. Lina also reflects the evolution
of Pianca, a company that represents a
culture of sophisticated design and acute
sensitivity, capturing the most profound
significance of every piece of furniture.

— Q&A
— Do you still sketch by hand?
Yes, I still sketch by hand, but mainly for
my own personal use. I’ve been using the
computer for this for 15 years. Sketches
help me get initial ideas after a brief, but
once the idea starts to take shape, I move
on quickly to 3D design.
— If you had to compare your design style
to an art movement, what would it be?
Definitely Impressionism. Because it’s
an art movement that focusses on colour
and not on a static, defined image.
Likewise, my designs are fluid
and potentially always evolutionary
and, while at first glance they appear
complete, they require closer inspection
to appreciate all their details.
— What is the strangest or most unusual
thing that has inspired you for a design?
A boat paddle, which I used for a table
design.
