Calligraphy marks the space
A wire encloses and separates, wraps around and holds shapes which gradually come to define the space. Seats, like oases, longed for areas of relief and rest, draw the eye and charm the observer. The cushions nestle into the structure without being squashed, they are merely held there so that frame and cushion together become part of the abstract, illusory pattern of the upholstery. The outline of the frame, like handwriting, reveals a conceptual exercise where the penstroke is repeated and the notion of composition becomes a complete, coherent seating system. Calligraphic sensibility combines tradition and design, East and West: individual components seek and find continuity without the need for any obvious connecting factor.
