Disegnata da Ron Arad nel 2000,
la collezione Victoria & Albert si sviluppa
a partire da un punto di vista ironico e
originale: un “donut” schiacciato al
centro e rimodellato con un approccio
scultoreo. Un’idea che, nella
trasposizione in immagine, si trasforma
in figure disegnate in continuità, flussi
curvilinei tracciati senza mai staccare
la matita dal foglio. Dall’immagine alla
forma la corrispondenza è rigorosa.
Sulla conchiglia interna in materiale
composito, l’imbottitura e il vestito cuciti
su misura si sovrappongono al flusso
senza mai interromperlo, evidenziando la
perfetta coincidenza tra il valore tecnico
ed espressivo del progetto.
Designed by Ron Arad in 2000,
the Victoria & Albert collection grew
from an ironic and original perspective:
a “doughnut” squashed in the middle
and reworked with a sculptor’s eye.
The image-drawn form transforms
into a continuous flow of curving lines
drawn without ever lifting the pencil
off the paper. There is a rigorous
correspondence between the image
and the form. The sewn-to-measure
padding and upholstery over an inner
fibreglass frame reveal the interaction
between the technical and expressive
merits of the design without interrupting
or overpowering its fluidity.
