Disegnato da Patricia Urquiola nel
2009, Rift è una famiglia di sedute
ispirata dagli effetti non prevedibili della
natura. Un sistema modulare imbottito,
due poltrone, una sedia cantilever
e due sgabelli sono costruiti su una
disposizione dei volumi asimmetrica,
corrispondenza diretta al significato del
nome che in geologia significa fessura,
spaccatura. In Rift falde multilivello
stimolano una seduta informale,
declinata al personale anche nell’uso
collettivo; come placche tettoniche,
i diversi strati tendono a scontrarsi
e a sovrapporsi in un originale effetto
di movimento, rendendo fluidi luoghi
rigidi e formali senza alterarne l’identità.

2009, Rift is a line of chairs inspired by
the unpredictability of nature.
A modular padded seating system with
two armchairs, a cantilever chair and
two footstools are built around the
asymmetric positioning of different
volumes, harking back to the product’s
name, which refers to a crack or fissure.
Multiple layers inspire relaxed seating,
designed for the individual yet perfect
for the public spaces: like tectonic
plates, the different layers tend to collide
and overlap giving a highly original
impression of movement, transforming
even the most formal space into
something fluid yet without ever altering
its character.
