Disegnata da Patricia Urquiola nel 2019, la
collezione Gogan deriva il suo nome dalla parola che
descrive i sassi che in Giappone vengono posizionati
sugli argini dei fiumi e dei laghi a protezione
e abbellimento delle rive. Il divano e la poltrona
ricordano infatti delle pietre arrotondate scolpite
dal vento e dall’acqua, massicce ma al contempo
morbide, su cui potersi adagiare. Come nelle
sculture, dove i sassi stanno in equilibrio in virtù
degli incastri e della posizione, nelle sedute l’armonia
tra gli elementi è data dalla forma non troppo
regolare: grazie a un gioco di gravità e proporzione,
ciò che dovrebbe essere pesante riesce così
a risultare leggero. L’assetto della seduta è inclinato
verso la parte posteriore; questo conferisce ai pezzi
della collezione un comfort estremo e consente
di mantenere lo schienale più basso.
Designed by Patricia Urquiola in 2019,
the Gogan collection derives its name from the word
for the stones placed along the edges of Japanese
rivers and lakes to protect and beautify the banks.
The sofa and armchair, reminiscent of rounded
stones sculpted by wind and water, are solid yet soft,
inviting rest. As in sculptures, in which stones are
dovetailed together in equilibrium, harmony between
the seating elements is given by forms that are not
completely regular, with an interplay of gravity and
proportion giving lightness to what should be heavy.
The seats slope towards the rear, ensuring that
the pieces in the collection possess a high level of
comfort and making a lower backrest possible.
