Husk trae ispirazione dal cartoccio,
la parte che ricopre esternamente la
pannocchia del mais. I campi
di granturco dipingono il paesaggio
dell’Italia settentrionale, in particolar
modo attorno alla città di Udine.
Il mais costituisce una risorsa a livello
planetario, attraversa frontiere e assume
molteplici forme. Per il designer è
l’opportunità di trasformare l’architettura
del cartoccio in un prodotto di uso
quotidiano universalmente riconoscibile
e accettato. Husk è presente anche nella
collezione M’Afrique, in una versione
intrecciata realizzata manualmente
a Dakar, in Senegal.
Designed in 2015 by Mark Thorpe,
Husk is inspired by the outer shell of
corn of the same name. The fields
of corn punctuate the landscape of
northern Italy, in particular around the
city of Udine. Corn is used as a resource
globally across all borders and takes
many forms. For Thorpe, this was an
opportunity to translate the architecture
of the husk from an ear of corn to
produce a globally recognisable and
accepted object for daily use. Husk can
also be found in the M’Afrique collection,
a braided version manufactured by
hand in Dakar, Senegal.
