Nel contesto urbano di Singapore gli alti
edifici contemporanei in vetro e acciaio
che dominano il paesaggio della città
convivono in più parti con un tessuto
minuto, fatto di case a due o tre piani, la
cui architettura curata - ricca di dettagli e di
elementi decorativi - è testimone della storia
commerciale e culturale della città.
Lungo il fiume Singapore, il Warehouse
Hotel è un boutique hotel con 37 camere
nato dal recupero di tre magazzini adiacenti
risalenti alla fine del XIX secolo.
Mentre il fronte principale dell’hotel si
affaccia sulla trafficata Havelock Road,
il prospetto opposto aperto sull’acqua e
circondato dalla vegetazione regala uno
scorcio di quella che era la Singapore di
poco più di un secolo fa.
Il progetto di Zarch Collaboratives e di
Asylum - che ha curato l’interior -
ha restaurato gli elementi originali
Singapore’s contemporary glass and steel
skyscrapers that dominate the urban
landscape often stand cheek by jowl with
much smaller buildings of two or three
stories whose rich detail and decorative
elements speak of the city-state’s trading
and cultural heritage.
Standing on the banks of River
Singapore, the 37-bedroom boutique
Warehouse Hotel has been created out of
just such buildings: three adjacent
warehouses dating back to the end of the
19th century.
While the main façade of the hotel faces the
busy Havelock Road, the back elevation
overlooking the water and surrounded by
vegetation takes visitors back to a Singapore
that existed little more than a century ago.
The restoration program by Zarch
Collaboratives and Asylum - the latter in
charge of the interior décor - maintained the
