aspre lounge chair, 2007
Halfway between furniture and sculpture, this side table is carved out
of a chunk of solid oak. Its name is borrowed from the Japanese town
but it also pays homage to the work of Constantin Brancusi through
its clean lines with particular reference to the “endless column”. This
piece, which is at the same time Brutalist and refined, combines mini-
malism with a poetry which elegantly fits into the home. The Nagato is
a side table but can also be used as a stool. You can sit on it or use
it to place a book, lamp or vase. The solid wood cracks naturally and
in time gives the object its individual look.
The Aspre lounge chair, with its harmoniously curved back and comfor-
table proportions, invites you to sit and relax. Its sleek design concen-
trates on the essential with a snug back and square seat which is deli-
berately low, allowing it to fit with any room in the home.
