This was the name Mafalda Soares chose when
starting to draft her first pieces. As a well
accomplished interior designer in Portugal, her
home, Mafalda has the opportunity to travel and
learn through many experiences her career has
brought her.
Recently, the Lisbon based designer embarked
on a new project, the creation of a distinguished
furniture collection, that represents her sensations
and developing experience as an artist, using
materials that touch her the most – marble and
gold leaf. A sort of autobiography that originated
through her talent, taste and references, brought
to life through the work of skilled artisans who
specialize in the materials she loves.
This is Memoir’s true mission, to create pieces that
symbolize individuality and elegance, through
the materialization of a special way of being in
life, dreams and emotions. As highly personal
pieces, each one tells a specific story, an intimacy
that is lightly exposed through exuberance and
elegance. Exhibiting for the first time earlier this
year at Maison & Objet Paris, Memoir earned
a buzz through the showcase of their first four
pieces: the Secret cabinet, the Lust chaise-longue,
the Vanity mirror and Ostentation folding screen.
With a sophisticated and a timeless personality,
the Secret cabinet is the result of the involvement
of handcrafted white marble into individual pieces
in a radial arrangement. Furthermore, its inside
finds a graceful praise with its simple, yet majestic
gold leaf interior. It is complimented with a round
brass handle, and gilded brass base, which promote
its strength, elegance and stability.
The Vanity mirror is a set comprised of 5
individual pieces which explore a sublime mix of
crystal mirror and aged mirror. Shaped as leaves,
and all customizable in terms of size and finish,
the Vanity allows for tremendous flexibility
within the décor context.
The Lust chaise-longue is fully upholstered in
white velvet and stands on a polished brass base,
calling on delight and evasion.
Gold plated with a simple form and classic lines, the
Ostentation folding screen comes as representation
of luxury and refinement. Its pieces are gently
joined together, as if suspended, giving it a sense of
the lightness and refinement.
According to Vincent Van Gogh, what is done
in love is done well. The same can be said about
Memoir, whose collection was created with love for
all who are in love with design and decoration.
