Lodola illuminates Boccaccio.
A dialogue between art, memory, and the future
The year 2025 marks the 650th anniversary of the death of Giovanni Boccaccio, a central figure in our
cultural history, not only as a 14th-century writer and intellectual, but also as a modern thinker, capable of
describing the human soul with irony and depth. For Certaldo, this occasion represents much more than a
simple celebration: it is an act of recognition, a moment of collective reflection, but also an opportunity to
renew our commitment to promoting our cultural heritage.
This is the context in which “Lodola et Boccaccio 25” fits in, a highly original exhibition project promoted by the
Ente Nazionale Giovanni Boccaccio and hosted in the evocative setting of Boccaccio’s House. The encounter
between the art of Marco Lodola, with his unmistakable visual language of light, color, and movement, and the
words of Boccaccio, classical but timeless, generates a surprising and stimulating creative short circuit.
The works on display - paintings inspired by the novellas of the Decameron and a luminous sculpture dedicated
to Boccaccio himself - offer a contemporary interpretation of his narrative universe, making an author who is too
often confined to school curricula or academic studies accessible and engaging. Lodola manages to “translate” it
with immediacy and lightness, without ever trivializing it. It is art that speaks to everyone, that moves, that raises
new questions.
This exhibition, set up in the museum’s panoramic tower, thus also becomes a gesture of giving back to the
community and visitors: an invitation to climb - physically and symbolically - toward a new, broader vision of our
past and its legacy. It is a way of saying that Boccaccio does not belong only to history, but continues to live,
to transform himself, to suggest different ways of looking at the world.
In a time when it is easy to lose sight of the importance of culture as a common good, initiatives like this remind
us how important it is to continue investing in beauty, knowledge, and dialogue between the arts and between
generations.

Un dialogo tra arte, memoria e futuro
Nel 2025 ricorrono i 650 anni dalla morte di Giovanni Boccaccio, figura centrale della nostra storia culturale,
non solo come scrittore e intellettuale del Trecento, ma anche come pensatore moderno, capace di raccontare
con ironia e profondità l’animo umano. Per Certaldo questa occasione rappresenta molto più di una semplice
celebrazione: è un atto di riconoscimento, un momento di riflessione collettiva, ma anche un’opportunità per
rinnovare l’impegno nella valorizzazione del nostro patrimonio culturale.
In questo contesto si inserisce “Lodola et Boccaccio 25”, un progetto espositivo di grande originalità, promosso
dall’Ente Nazionale Giovanni Boccaccio e ospitato nella suggestiva cornice di Casa Boccaccio. L’incontro tra
l’arte di Marco Lodola, con il suo inconfondibile linguaggio visivo fatto di luce, colore e movimento, e la parola
di Boccaccio, tanto classica quanto sempre viva, genera un cortocircuito creativo sorprendente e stimolante.
Le opere esposte – tele ispirate ai racconti del Decameron e una scultura luminosa dedicata allo stesso Boccaccio
– offrono una lettura contemporanea del suo universo narrativo, rendendo accessibile e coinvolgente un autore
che troppo spesso resta confinato nei programmi scolastici o negli studi accademici. Lodola riesce invece a
“tradurlo” con immediatezza e leggerezza, senza mai banalizzarlo. È arte che parla a tutti, che emoziona, che
accende nuove domande.
Questa mostra, allestita nella Torre panoramica del museo, diventa così anche un gesto di restituzione alla
comunità e ai visitatori: un invito a salire – fisicamente e simbolicamente – verso una visione nuova, più ampia,
del nostro passato e della sua eredità. È un modo per dire che Boccaccio non appartiene solo alla storia, ma
continua a vivere, a trasformarsi, a suggerirci modi diversi di guardare il mondo.
In un tempo in cui è facile smarrire il senso della cultura come bene comune, iniziative come questa ci
ricordano quanto sia importante continuare a investire in bellezza, in conoscenza, in dialogo tra le arti e tra le
generazioni.
