It’s important\nto practice an intense professional and affective\nrelationship between client, designer and company that\nbelongs to the culture of the project.\nSo the object becomes a part of a vast and very articulate\nnarrative program that, in pursuing a personal image,\nredefines the relationship between industrial production\nand knowledge production.\nNON SI TRATTA SOLO DI BUON DESIGN\nTato nasce con l’intenzione di fare bene le cose.\nÈ questo il suo campo di attività. Esiste un sapere\nprofondo che si costruisce nella pratica del fare. Fare\nbene le cose per un’azienda che produce apparecchi\nd’illuminazione e tutto ciò che si configura come\noggetto di arredamento significa esprimere un modo\ndi essere e una precisa disposizione: progettare,\ncon studiatissimo understatement, una propria idea\ndi libertà, un’idea di nuovo che non si cerca perché\nè quotidianamente vissuto.\nQuella di Tato è un’idea di design che traduce in\nun nuovo scenario economico e culturale e declina\nal futuro la lunga tradizione di abilità manuale,\ndi conoscenza dei gesti e dei materiali, di perizia\ne destrezza del lavoro artigiano che costituisce da\nsempre un elemento di riconoscibilità dell’Italia nel\nmondo. Non c’è industria di qualità che possa fare\na meno dell’artigianato.\nIl continuo lavoro manuale sul materiale e sulle forme\nche esso può assumere, la sorpresa e l’intima e nuova\nfamiliarità che ne deriva, ci restituisce degli oggetti\nche sono, in qualche modo, personaggi e presenze,\nche conversano dentro a un’architettura, si sentono\nsempre a loro agio e sanno comportarsi.\nCose capaci di mantenere nel tempo il loro valore.\nIl buon design inizia sempre dalle persone.\nTato si circonda di quelle che un poco gli\nassomigliano ma soprattutto di quelle che sono\nmolto diverse. Non solo di architetti e designer ma\ndi un circuito intellettuale vasto e caratterizzato da\nun’attitudine alla ricerca e alla sperimentazione. Sono\nsoprattutto importanti le relazioni legate ai saperi\nartigianali del territorio in cui l’azienda è nata e quelle\ninternazionali che contribuiscono a diffondere il suo\npensiero. Cruciale è poi ascoltare le persone, sempre\npiù numerose e sempre più sofisticate, che cercano\nstoria e cultura nelle cose che scelgono.\nPer Tato la cultura è importante e s’impegna in\ndiverse operazioni. Gli piace ripescare nella storia\nperché esistono degli oggetti che sembrano fatti\noggi benché appartengano al nostro ieri o forse\nall’altroieri.\nDREAMED AND MADE IN ITALY\nTato was conceived to do things well. This is what it’s\ndealing with. There’s a deep knowledge arising from the\npractice. Doing things well for a company producing\nlighting design and furnishing items, means to express a\nway to be and a precise attitude. It means to purposely\ndesign in an understated way a personal idea of what\nfreedom is, a personal idea of new, of something you\ndon’t look for, because you live with it every day.\nTato’s design concept results in a new economic and\ncultural scenario and in a future-oriented tradition of\nmanual dexterity, knowledge of gestures and materials,\nhandicrafts. All those elements that make Italy wellknown\nin the world. His solid \nexperience led Nunziati \ncarry out teaching activities \nat important institutions \nsuch as Domus Academy, \nthe National Taipei \nUniversity of Technology, \nthe IDI Interior Design \nInstitute of Milan and \nthe Tshinghua University \nShenzhen in China.\nMatteo\nNunziati\nDESIGNER\nMODERNI\nCorrado Corradi Dell’Acqua \n(Milano 1905 - Varese 1982)\nconosceva il diritto e praticava \nla scrittura e, senza far rumore, \nè diventato designer. Si divertiva a realizzare \nchintz con Luchino Visconti e gli \npiaceva lavorare la ceramica. Ha \nprogettato lampade fatte col \nvetro dei tram di Milano e molti \naltri oggetti progettati a partire \ndalla casa con, in filigrana, \nun’idea precisa dell’abitare.\nCorrado Corradi Dell’Acqua \n(Milan 1905 - Varese 1982) \nwas a law expert, an amateur \nwriter, and quietly became a \ndesigner. His dachshund’s name \nwas Azucena like the company \nCorradi had started in 1947 \nwith two other young Milanese \nintellectuals, Luigi Caccia \nDominioni and Ignazio Gardella. \nCorrado Corradi had fun \ndesigning chintz with Luchino \nVisconti and he liked ceramic. \nHe designed lamps made with \nglass from Milan’s tramcars \nand many other objects for the \nhouse, with a precise idea of \nliving in mind.\nIgnazio Gardella (Milano, 1905 \n- Oleggio, 1999) è uno dei \nprotagonisti dell’architettura \nitaliana del Novecento. Si \nlaurea prima in Ingegneria \ncivile e poi in Architettura \nal Politecnico di Milano. Già \nprima della guerra svolge una \nserie di lavori importanti per \nl’alta borghesia piemontese e \nlombarda, una committenza \nche saprà intrepretare in molti \nimportanti progetti del periodo \ndella Ricostruzione che lo vedrà \nin prima linea nella proposta di \nuna nuova idea di architettura. \nNel 1947, con Luigi Caccia \nDominioni e Corrado Corradi \nDell’Acqua, fonda Azucena. \nFino agli anni Novanta, Gardella \ncontinuerà a disegnare mobili e \noggetti d’arredo, oltre a portare \navanti la straordinaria attività di \narchitetto.\nIgnazio Gardella (Milan, 1905 \n- Oleggio, 1999) was one of \nthe leading figures in Italian \ntwentieth-century architecture. \nHe graduated first of all in \nCivil Engineering and then in \nArchitecture at the Politecnico \ndi Milano. Even before the \nwar he had performed a series \nof jobs for the upper classes \nof Piedmont and Lombardia, \nclients whom he was able to \ninterpret in many important \nprojects in the period of \nReconstruction when he was \nat the forefront in proposing \na new idea of architecture. Con \nAntonio Fornaroli e Alberto \nRosselli, nello studio di via \nDezza che diventerà la sua casa, \nconcepisce una straordinaria \nserie di progetti, espressione \ndella teoria della “forma finita”, \nnel campo dell’arredo con le \n“pareti organizzate”, del design \ne dell’architettura.\nGio Ponti is one of the most \nimportant figures in twentieth-\ncentury architecture and \narts. He graduated in Milan \nin 1921. From 1923 to 1930 \nhe was artistic director of \nthe Richard Ginori company. \nIn 1928 he founded the \nmagazine “Domus”, which \nwould be followed by other \ngreat publishing feats such as \n“Stile”. Dating from the late \n1920s are the “typical homes”, \nwhich combined the concept \nof Italianness with an interest in \nrationalist theories. Right from \nthe start, he took part in the \nTriennale design expositions in \nMilan.
