The re-\ncipes for the compositions of our distinctive colors are a \nclosely guarded secret even today, passed down from ge-\nneration to generation within the Seguso family. \nThe realization of a color in glass has many variables, not \nonly the composition where a few tenths of a gram may \nchange the result, but also the temperature during the hea-\nting process and the length of the glass fusion (melting) - all \nof these variables have an effect on the final color. Usually \nthe fusion takes place between 1280° and 1420° degrees \ncentigrade, depending on the color, and lasts between 6 \nand 10 hours. \nIt is important to underline that not all colors are equal in \nterms of sensitivity to these variables, some of them are \nmuch more sensitive to these variations than \nothers and are particularly difficult to achieve.\nThe colors of glass have a somewhat \nmagical expression, given by the tones \nthat in transparency are reflected back \nto the human eye. Thickness, refraction, \nintensity and light can change the per-\nception of the color based on the use, the \ntechnique, or the design. It is extremely im-\nportant to see a color in both thickness and \ntechnique to truly  understand the essence and \nthe effect.\nThe glass forming techniques used by \nSeguso are innumerable, perhaps the best \nknown being gold and silver leafing, which \ninvolves the insertion of precious metals \ninto the glass itself, offering\nrefraction and a pulverized effect of \nthe metal as well as color. \nThe “iridium” technique obtained by \na warm oxidation of the surface of the \nglass creates a unique mother of pearl \nrefraction. The technique of sand \nblasting transforms transparent glass \ninto an opaque, matt finish. These \ntechniques can be applied to any color. \nThe colors in the photographs give an idea similar, but not \nidentical to, reality and must be utilized as a general point of \nreference, not a precise one, since only the glass itself can \nguarantee a true expression of the color.\nIl vetro è realizzato con la sabbia silicea fusa ad ele-\nmenti chimici che portano purezza e colorazione. Le ri-\ncette per le composizioni dei colori sono un segreto che \nsi tramanda nella famiglia Seguso di generazione in ge-\nnerazione, e viene ancora oggi scrupolosamente custo-\ndito. La realizzazione di un colore nel vetro ha numerose \nvariabili, non solo la composizione nella quale pochissimi \ndecimi di grammo possono modificare  il risultato, ma \nanche la cottura con temperatura e durata della fusione \npossono incidere sulla riuscita del colore.\nNormalmente la fusione si ottiene tra i 1280° e 1420° \ncentigradi a seconda dei colori e dura dalle 6 alle 10 \nore. E` importante evidenziare che non tutti i colori sono \nuguali, infatti alcuni di essi sono maggiormente sensibili \na queste variazioni.   \nI colori nel vetro hanno una espressione magica, data dal-\nla tonalità che nella trasparenza sanno restituire all`occhio \numano. Spessore, rifrazione, intensità e luce possono far \ncambiare la resa dello stesso colore in base all`utilizzo ed \nalla tecnica o al design realizzato. Per questa ragione è \nimportante vedere un colore nel suo insieme di spessori e \nlavorazioni per capirne l’essenza. E’ questo l`unico modo \nper riuscire a cogliere le differenze che esistono sempre \nnei colori del vetro.   \nLe tecniche di lavorazione sono innumerevoli, ci limi-\nteremo a menzionare le applicazioni piu` diffuse, come \nla lavorazione con foglia Oro o Argento, che pre-\nvede l`inserendo nel vetro stesso del metallo prezioso \noffrendo in aggiunta al colore, la rifrazione e l`effetto \npolverizzato del metallo. La lavorazione dell`iride che \nper mezzo di un’ ossidazione a caldo sulla superfice del \nvetro ottiene una rifrazione madreperlacea sulla super-\nfice. La lavorazione di Sabbiatura e satinatura che \ntrasforma il vetro trasparente in opaco. Tutte queste \ntecniche possono essere applicate a qualsiasi colore. \nI colori nelle fotografie rendono un’ idea simile ma non \nidentica alla realtà  e devono essere utilizzati esclusi-\nvamente
