He spent his childhood living so accustomed
by nature, on the outskirts of the big city (300,000 inhabitants), full of noise
and odours. Geometry, architecture, drawing, painting, sculpture, optical:
this is the training his father ordered for his son. He was then placed at the
atelier of Simon Vouet, fi rst painter of Louis XIII. Vouet set up his atelier in
the Grand Gallery, the one that Queen Catherine had built to connect the
Louvre to the Castle of Tuileries. After his training, he had to make a choice:
painter or gardener? The Tuileries were there, under his eyes: he knows
that one day will be the master, his choice was soon made. His training
of architect played a vital role in its symmetric vision of harmony and espe-
cially of perspective. Le Nôtre was married in 1640. He had three sons,
but all died young. He directed his affection towards his nephew Claude
Desgots, gardener like him, and to him was given the castle garden of
Champs-sur-Marne. In 1656, his friend Charles Le Brun was trying him: a
formidable project was putting into motion, that of Superintendent of fi nan-
ces Fouquet, Mazarin’s favorite; There are 500 acres to work alongside
Vaux and three small hameaux removed from the map in order to ensure
that the project can see the light. Five years of avid job for two friends and
up to 18,000 workers to win this challenge. For Le Nôtre glory has begun.
The gardener becomes head of an army of workers.
Mobile Bar
160 x 55 x 210H
",42
"/media/images/81/9b8dafb360fe00ddc7281472fa3514.43.png","84
85
