What was your inspiration \nand why did you choose this style?\nPreciosa Lighting was a partner of the prestigious Jewelry \nDesigner of the Year award at the Czech Grand Design \nceremony, which I received in 2014. I suggested a project \ninvolving lights, designed for a specific space in a beautiful \nbaroque palace in the center of Prague.\nIn the Tree of Life installation, I combined traditional \nmaterials such as wood and glass into an architectural \ncomposition with a symbolic message. The wooden \ntree trunk and the tree canopy carried on their branches \norganically shaped objects that symbolized the fruit of life \n(Souls) made out of blown and sandblasted glass. Some of \nthem were still hanging in their place, others had already \nfallen and were lying around the tree reminding us of the \nunending cycle of life. \nWhat do you appreciate the most when working \nwith glass?\nI came to work with glass as a total beginner, slowly \nrealizing that it has endless possibilities. You are looking at \na glowing liquid waiting to take shape. However, it is very \nimportant to know what you want to achieve and your \nability to communicate the idea to the glass maker who is \nworking for you. \nWhat is it about lighting that makes it interesting for \nyou to design?\nI like to design lights for specific spaces as an art object \nwith a character.\n \nWhat role do you believe lighting plays in a space’s \ninterior design?\nSunlight gives us life. Man-made light has an ability to \ncontrol how we experience space. When we take into \naccount all aspects of the environment, light can enhance \nand complement the interior. \nWhat is your design process?\nQuite unpredictable. What was your inspiration \nand why did you choose this style?\nGeometric is one of my favorite lighting collections that \nI’ve designed. This is actually because of the company that \nI collaborated with. The whole process of creating with \nPreciosa is special; they are real masters of glass and each \nhandmade piece feels like something that I put myself into \nand am proud of. \nHow did you feel when you saw your finished light?\nEvery single time I see the final product, I have the most \nwonderful feeling. It is the realization of something that \nbegan as just a thought. You imagine something that \ndoesn’t exist, and then you see your ideas come to life, \nbecoming real and true. It is such a warm and fantastic \nfeeling. In some cases, it makes you feel like a god. Like you \nhave added to creation.\nWhat do you appreciate the most when working \nwith glass?\nI really like the process of designing glass fixtures with \nPreciosa because they do almost everything by hand, which \nis kind of magic. At the beginning there is just the sand and \nthen they create a kind of magical chemistry. They choose \nsecret proportions of different ingredients to get different, \nwonderful results. Like different combinations of their \nmysterious ingredients result in different colors of glass. \nYou can also choose your custom finishing. The process is \nreally fascinating.\nWhat is it about lighting that makes it interesting for \nyou to design?\nFor Preciosa I wanted to create something really simple in \nshape that would be common to everyone. I wanted a shape \nthat would be an understandable design throughout the \nworld. To create a sort of universally appreciated design, \nI chose the clear cylindrical shape. Then, I decided to do \nsome geometric carving in the glass that both makes the \ndesign unique and allows for the lights to be used in all \ndifferent kinds of spaces. They would work just as well in \nprivate spaces as in restaurants. These lights work in every \nkind of interior.\nWhat role do you believe lighting plays in a space’s \ninterior design?\nLighting plays a huge role in interior design because it can \ncreate different kinds of moods. So, it really affects how we \nfeel inside a space. The mood, feeling, or ambiance of an \ninterior really depends on how we use light inside that space. \nAnd using the right lighting can ensure a specific mood that \nwe want to have inside each space.\nCan you tell me about your experience working with \nPreciosa Lighting?\nPreciosa was the first company from the Czech Republic \nthat I worked with. I was involved in every step of the \nglassmaking of my lighting collection. From the first glass \nmelt to the blowing, to the heating, to the curving, the \nshaping, the engraving. We discussed every detail as a team. \nThis teamwork, for me, was very important, because you \ncan put a piece of your heart, of your soul, into the product  \nto make it distinctive, unmatched. Actually, every light, \nevery lamp is unique because it’s totally handmade at \nPreciosa.
