Dopo alcuni anni e varie esperienze \nnel campo della scenografia inizia l’attività professionale nello studio \nsituato nel centro storico di Lucca. La sua attenzione è volta all’inizio  \nalla progettazione d’interni e allestimenti per negozi, ristoranti, \nalberghi e bar. La necessità di completare i suoi progetti lo spinge a \ndisegnare e a  realizzare in proprio gli apparecchi illuminanti. Siamo \nnegli anni cinquanta, inizia la produzione e il primo catalogo. In questi \nanni Elio Martinelli mette in risalto il suo estro semplice e rigoroso \ndando un forte impulso all’azienda che diventa un punto di riferimento \nnel design italiano nel campo dell’illuminazione. \nElio Martinelli inizia poi a collaborare con noti progettisti del settore \nottenendo premi e riconoscimenti. Sotto la sua guida l’azienda \npartecipa nel 1966 alla prima edizione di Eurodomus, su invito \ndell’architetto Gio’ Ponti, è poi presente anche alle edizioni successive \ndel 1968, 1970 e 1972. E’ presente inoltre alla XIV e XV Triennale a \nMilano nel 1973 e a tutte le edizioni seguenti della Fiera di Milano, \nIntel e ora Euroluce .\nL’ispirazione di Elio Martinelli è sempre stata la semplicità, la geometria \ne la natura vista nelle sue molteplici forme. Un crescendo di intuizioni \nutilizzando nuovi materiali come il metacrilato, sperimentato in svariati \nmodelli fino dall’inizio dell’attività produttiva e progettuale. Una ricerca \ndi nuove idee, nuove tecnologie e sistemi produttivi tenendo conto \nanche della continua evoluzione delle sorgenti luminose. \nDa queste sperimentazioni nascono così diverse lampade come \nla Foglia, le Bolle, il Flex, il Serpente,il Cobra, Nuvole vagabonde, \nla Biconica e creazioni divertenti come le Rondini, Cavallo Pazzo, \nGeronimo, e molte altre. Da segnalare l’inserimento di alcuni modelli \ndella collezione Martinelli Luce in importanti musei e presenti in \ndiverse pubblicazioni ed esposti in mostre di settore.\nNegli ultimi anni con l’introduzione di nuove sorgenti di luce, Elio \nMartinelli orienta la progettazione anche verso un settore più \ntecnico: nascono i sistemi e gli apparecchi di illuminazione di grandi \ndimensioni, di diverse tipologie realizzati  anche su misura, studiati \nper vasti ambienti e per nuove esigenze. Elio Martinelli è instancabile, \ntutti i giorni è in azienda fino alla sua scomparsa avvenuta nel \n2004, ma ancora oggi dopo quaranta anni, alcune lampade da lui \nprogettate, come il Serpente ,Cobra, la Bolla, la Semisfera, il Gomito \ne molte altre continuano a comunicarci anche nell’attuale contesto \ncosì diverso,  quell’originale impulso progettuale.\nE\nlio Martinelli was born in Lucca in 1921\u002F2004. \nHe attends a vocational school and afterwards he obtains a \ndiploma at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence as stage designer; \nover the years he gives his contribution, thanks to his creativity, to \nthe development of his father’s, Plinio, business in the lighting sector. \nAfter few years and after several experiences in the stage design \nsector, he starts his own business into his office located in the old \ntown center in Lucca. \nAt the beginning he focuses on interior design and fitting for shops, \nrestaurants, hotels and pubs. Because of the need to finish his plans, \nhe draws and carries out lighting devices on his own. We are in the \n50s, the production starts and the first catalogue is issued. During \nthese years, Elio Martinelli emphasizes his simple and rigorous \ninspiration giving a strong boost to his company which becomes \na reference point for the Italian design in the lighting sector. Elio \nMartinelli is well known in Italy as well as abroad and he starts to work \ntogether with distinguished designers of this sector obtaining prizes \nand acknowledgments. \nIn 1996, during his leadership, the company takes part to the first \nedition of Eurodomus, at the architect Gio’ Ponti’s invitation and \nafterwards it is present at the editions in 1968, 1970 and 1972. It \nis also present to the 14th and 15th editions of the Milan Triennial \nin 1973 and to all the following editions of the Milan Fair, Intel \nand now Euroluce. Elio Martinelli has always been inspired by \nsimplicity, geometry and nature considered from its manifold forms. \nA crescendo of intuitions using new materials such as methacrylate, \nwhich has been tested with different methods from the beginning of \nthe production and designing activity. \nA search for new ideas, for new technologies and production systems \ntaking into account the constant evolution of sources of light, as \nwell. C’est l’époque où Elio Martinelli met en \navant son génie simple et rigoureux en donnant un impact important \nà l’entreprise qui devient alors une référence pour le design italien \ndans le domaine de l’éclairage. \nElio Martinelli est connu en Italie et à l’étranger. Il débute alors sa \ncollaboration avec des concepteurs de renom appartenant au secteur \nen obtenant des prix. Après avoir repris l’entreprise, il participe à la \npremière édition de Eurodomus en 1966, invité par l’architecte Gio’ \nPonti. Il sera par la suite régulièrement présent aux éditions de 1968, \n1970 et 1972. Il participe également à la XIVe et XVe Triennale à Milan \nen 1973 et à toutes les éditions suivantes du Salon de Milan, Intel \net maintenant Euroluce. L’inspiration d’Elio Martinelli part toujours \nd’une grande simplicité, de la géométrie et de la nature vue sous ses \ndifférentes formes. Un crescendo d’intuitions, en utilisant de nouvelles \nmatières comme le méthacrylate, expérimenté sur plusieurs modèles \nau début de son activité de fabricant et de concepteur. Il recherche \nde nouvelles idées, de nouvelles technologies et de nouveaux \nsystèmes de production en tenant également compte de l’évolution \nconstante des sources lumineuses. \nCes expérimentations donnent ainsi naissance à plusieurs lampes \ncomme Foglia, Bolle, Flex, Serpente, Cobra, Nuvole vagabonde, \nla Biconica et à des créations amusantes telles que le Rondini, \nCavallo Pazzo, Geronimo, et tant d’autres encore. Certains modèles \nde la collection Martinelli Luce ont été installés dans des musées \nprestigieux et ont fait l’objet de publications et d’articles lors de \nnombreuses expositions du secteur. Au cours de ses dernières \nannées d’existence, Elio Martinelli oriente la conception vers un \nsecteur plus technique, pour ne pas négliger les nouvelles sources \nde lumière : c’est ainsi que naissent les systèmes et les appareils \nd’éclairage de grande dimension, de plusieurs types et également \nsur mesure, étudiés pour les grands espaces et pour les nouvelles \nexigences. Elio Martinelli est infatigable, il passe ses journées dans \nl’entreprise jusqu’à sa mort en 2004. Aujourd’hui encore, quarante \nans plus tard, les lampes qu’il a réalisé telles que il Cobra, la bolla, la \nsemisfera et tant d’autres, n’a pas cessé de communiquer, dans un \ncontexte actuel si différent, une conception forte et originale.\nE\nlio Martinelli wurde 1921 in Lucca geboren und ist 2004 \nverschieden. \nNach der Gewerbeschule erwirbt er sein Diplom als Bühnenbildner \nbei der Kunstakademie in Florenz und dank seiner Kreativität trägt er \nim Lauf der Jahren dazu bei, die Tätigkeit seines Vaters Plinio in der \nBeleuchtungsbranche zu entwickeln.\nNach einigen Jahren und vielfältigen Erfahrungen im Bereich der \nBühnenbildnerei beginnt er seine Berufstätigkeit im Atelier in der \nStadtmitte Lucca. Am Anfang beschäftigt er sich mit Innenraumdesign \nund Einrichtungen für Geschäfte, Restaurants, Hotels und Bars. Um \nseine Projekte fertigzumachen fängt er an, Leuchtapparate zu \nzeichnen und eigenhändig herzustellen.\nIn den fünfziger Jahren fängt er an mit der ersten Produktlinie und \ndem ersten Katalog. In diesen Jahren tritt Elio Martinelli mit seiner \neinfachen und strengen Eingebung hervor und dadurch fördert er sein \nUnternehmen, das jetzt zum Anhaltspunkt im italienischen Design im \nBeleuchtungsbereich wird.\nElio Martinelli beginnt dann mit den bekanntesten Designers der \nBranche zusammenzuarbeiten und erhält Preise und Anerkennungen.\nUnter seiner Leitung und auf Einladung des Architekten Gio’ Ponti \nnimmt der Betrieb 1966 an der ersten Veranstaltung von Eurodomus \nteil, und wird dann bei den nächsten Veranstaltungen 1968,1970 \nund 1972 ausstellen. Der Betrieb nimmt ausserdem an der XIV und \nXV  Triennale in Mailand im Jahr 1973 teil, sowie an allen anderen \ndarauffolgenden Veranstaltungen der Messe Mailand, Intel und jetzt \nEuroluce.\nElio Martinelli hat sich immer durch Einfachkeit, Geometrie und \nalle vielfältigen Formen der Natur inspirieren lassen. Es handelt \nsich um ein Stärkewerden von Intuitionen durch den Gebrauch \nvon neuen Materialien wie Methacrylat, das Herr Martinelli in vielen \nModellen experiementiert bis zum Beginn seiner Herstellungs- und \nDesigntätigkeit. Immer auf der Suche nach neuen Ideen, neuen \nTechnologien und Herstellungssystemen, nimmt er zur selben Zeit auf \ndie andauernde Entwicklung der Lichtquelle Rücksicht. \nAus diesem Experimentieren entstehen daher viele Lampen wie \n„Foglia“, „Bolle”, „Flex“, „Serpente“, „Cobra“, „Nuvole vagabonde“, \n„Biconica“ und belustigende Erzeugungen wie „Rondini“, „Cavallo \nPazzo“, „Geronimo“ und viele andere. Nennenswert ist die \nEinbeziehung von einigen Modellen der Martinelli Luce-Sammlung \nin berühmte Museen. Andere Lichtgeräte wurden und werden in \nverschiedenen Publikationen und Zeitschriften publiziert und bei \nMessen dieses Bereichs ausgestellt.\nIn den letzten Jahren nach der Einführung von neuen Lichtquellen \nrichtet Elio Martinelli sein Design auch nach einem technischeren Sektor \naus: es entstehen Beleuchtungssysteme und Beleuchtungsapparate \nvon grossem Umfang, und verschiedener Typologien, die auch \nnach Mass entwickelt werden. Die werden für ausgedehnte Räume \nund für neue Erfordernisse wohldurchdacht.
