Colors are never “gaudy” \nbut barely whispered: chalk and limestone whites and shades of gray of clay, \nslate, quartz, and onyx; dusty cyan hues of agate and bold shades of lapis lazuli; \nthe nuances of red in the progression of coral to terracotta; jade and emerald \ngreen; the golden hues of amber and topaz; peat and mud browns; and the black \nof ebony and hematite.
