Lauded as a visionary amongst his
international contemporaries, Isozaki’s forward-
thinking approach, deep commitment to the “art of
space,” and transnational methodology have been
evidenced since the 1960s.
The prolific architect has been credited with
facilitating dialogue between East and West,
reinterpreting global influences within architecture,
and supporting the development of younger
generations in the field. His precision and dexterity
are demonstrated through his mastery of an
intercontinental range of building techniques,
interpretation of site and context, and intentionality
of details. Isozaki’s early successes in architecture
transpired during the era following the Allied
occupation of Japan, when the country sought to
rebuild itself after the ruins of the Second World War.
His buildings appear geometrically simple, but are
infused with theory and purpose. The Museum
of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (1981-1986 Los
Angeles, United States) was the architect’s first
international commission. Though controversial and
geographically challenging, the red Indian sandstone
building was resolved by Isozaki’s eloquent awareness
of scale through an assemblage of volumes, while
employing the golden ratio and yin yang theory
throughout, evoking the complementary nature of
western and eastern relationships.
",19
"/media/images/1d/05de014b32e9be4101d4187f62ce06.20.png","COVETED
PRESENTS
UPCOMING
EVENTS
2019
MAISON&OBJET PARIS | 6-10 SEPTEMBER
Maison&Objet is back for its second edition of the year, after an amazing first edition in January.
Be prepared to discover incredible new brands, products and trends, along with interesting panels
and talks. The idea was brought in by chef and
proprietor of the restaurant Jung Sik Yim, who decided to open a
restaurant in New York in 2011 after the success of the establishment
back in Seoul. The original establishment had the goal of presenting
to Koreans a whole new modern take on their traditional gastronomy
and that was the very same concept with which Jungsik came to the
USA. This second establishment is located at Harrington Street and
it presents New Yorkers and any visitors who happen to wander in
a new twist on Korean cuisine. Inside, you will be introduced to a
whole new set of amazing dishes which feature incredible ingredients
such as black cod, caviar, duck and scallops. All of these unique
Asian culinary wonders are displayed flawlessly on the white plates,
sometimes with some artful and playful touches added to them.
When it comes to the decor of the restaurant, Jungsik has a
minimalistic yet effective presentation that you can experience
entirely, regardless if you pick a Group Dining Option or opt to
experience their Private Dining Room. The use of wood and warm
colours in many of their decoration elements gives Jungsik a timeless
charm that is very associated with the Korean style, only with a more
contemporary touch to it. All in all, it’s a very good example of a
minimalistic decoration fitting a modern Asian style.
Jungsik is a good example of a restaurant that definitely managed to
change the point of view of people regarding Korean food, both for
Koreans and now for New Yorkers. It’s a wonderful experience in
gastronomical and presentation experiences, that comes to show that
any type of tradition or culture can easily adapt to a modern scenario.
Address: 2 Harrison St, New York, NY 10013
Website: jungsik.com/
",126
"/media/images/1d/05de014b32e9be4101d4187f62ce06.127.png","COVETED MAGAZINE PAGE 127.
WORLD’S FINEST RESTAURANTS //
COVETED MAGAZINE PAGE 127.
",127
"/media/images/1d/05de014b32e9be4101d4187f62ce06.128.png","GINZA ONODERA
LONDON, UK
Ginza Onodera seems to be the perfect place to have your first
Japanese cuisine experience. “Ginza Onodera offers an authentic and
exclusive Japanese dining experience right in the heart of St James’s,
London.” This is the expression you’ll find at the restaurant’s website
that better describes the concept. But we have more to say.
After stepping into a stylish bar with industrial coolers displaying
the wines and sake, we headed downstairs where the dining area is
located. The design is modern and sleek, with marble counters, slate
walls, low-hanging lamps and an uncanny spectacularism.
We had six different kinds of dishes that felt like heaven. Between
sashimi, prawn and assorted vegetable tempura, Wagyu beef and
some other plates, we are not able to choose a favourite one.
