In quel tempo il Re Luigi XIV alla continua ricerca di\nuna Reggia che lo soddisfacesse, scelse Versailles come sua dimora\ned intraprese grandi lavori di ammodernamento.\nLa prima festa data alla Reggia di Versailles avvenne nel 1664 e\nsi intitolò: ”Les Plaisirs de L’Isle Enchantèe”.\nEssa intrecciava l’ispirazione italiana delle Opere di Ludovico\nAriosto e Torquato Tasso, con quella francese rappresentata da\nMolière”. Dalle contaminazioni del teatro rinascimentale\nall’arte degli arredi del tardo rinascimento stesso. Fu proprio la\n“boiserie” uno degli elementi fondanti negli arredi delle grandi\nsale della Reggia di Versailles e fu l’inizio di una lunga storia che\nvive ancora oggi.\nLa “boiserie” rappresenta dunque la tradizione classica, ma\nattraversando il tempo senza soluzione di continuità, viene\nreinterpretata con spirito innovativo e creativo in chiave moderna.\nDallo stile rinascimentale nell’apertura geometrica delle linee e\nl’ampio utilizzo di vivaci tessuti arabescati ad ornare le pannellature\nin legno, allo stile barocco tipico del XVII secolo che enfatizza in\nmodo rigoroso la sfarzosità di materiali preziosi come il legno\ncolor avorio e l’argento.\nLa “boiserie” quindi si trasforma e diviene più rigorosa.\nAttraversando il periodo rococò tra il XVII e il XVIII secolo, la\n“boiserie” riceve decorazioni nei fregi e nelle ampie pannellature\ncome lampade, candelieri e tessuti più leggeri, tipici delle arti\ndecorative stesse. Nuovi motivi e nuove decorazioni naturali come\ninno alla delicatezza e alla gioia. Nel tardo XVIII secolo un ritorno\nrigoroso dal rococò al neoclassico. Linee pulite che diverranno\nben presto definizione dello stile impero e della sua massima\nespressione nella “Signorilità Napoleonica”.\nLa “boiserie” si veste nell’epoca di legni scuri come il mogano e\ndi decorazioni e profili in ottone per poi nel secolo successivo\nlasciarsi nuovamente decorare in modo ricco e fastoso.\nNella realtà anglosassone, la “boiserie” riceve quel mix di\nconfort e buongusto tipici del settecento inglese dell’epoca\ngeorgiana. Dall’Inghilterra essa si diffonde ben presto in tutto il\ncontinente divenendo punto di riferimento nell’arredamento di\ncase e palazzi. Nasce quindi nell’Inghilterra del tardo 700 per\nperdurare nei due secoli successivi, l’eclettismo. Una “libertà” di\nreinterpretare le forme artistiche esistenti modellandole\nartisticamente e adattandole a qualsiasi significato. La “boiserie”\ndiviene pertanto elemento per la narrazione degli stili. Solida e\nsemplice per la sala da pranzo, leggera e femminile per i salotti,\ncon toni scuri nelle biblioteche e toni chiari nelle camere da letto.\nDall’ ”Esposizione delle Arti Decorative” tenutasi a Parigi nel\n1925 nasce l’ArtDéco e con essa la “boiserie”rivive nuove\ndeclinazioni mirate ad impreziosire in modo unico la nostra casa.\nQuesta è dunque la vera magia di “Opera Hall”, seguire il tempo\nattraversandolo, dal rinascimento alla modernità. Boiseries were still\npopular in Renaissance France, the Palace at Versailles being\nperhaps one of Europe’s most famous examples.\nIn those days Louis XIV spared no expense in his quest to make\nhis palace reflect of his glory, setting up court in Versailles and\ninvesting in every sort of decor and modernisation.\nThe first ever party to be held at Versailles was the fête called\n“Les Plaisirs de L’Île Enchantée” in 1664.\nThis celebration took its inspiration both from the works of Italy’s\nLudovico Ariosto and Torquato Tasso, and those of the French\nplaywright Molière. Born from a crossover of styles that blended\nthe art of Renaissance theatre with that of late Renaissance\nfurnishing, the Boiseries became a key feature of the great halls\nof Versailles, where they began a history which even today still lives on.\nThe use of the Boiserie panelling represents both a celebration of\ntradition and at the same time a move forward with great continuity,\na highly creative and innovative modern reinterpretation of a\ntimeless classic. The Boiserie panelling later changed to take on\na more rigorous aspect that owed a great deal to its Renaissance-style\noutstretched geometric lines coupled with brightly coloured\nArabesque fabrics, which decorated the wooden panels, and also\nto the use of a typical 17th century Baroque style that emphasised\nthe magnificence of the precious materials used with ivory and\nsilver coloured woods. Later with the arrival of Rococo between\nthe 17th and 18th century, Boiserie took a new turn with the\narrival of decorative carvings in its broad panels and the addi-\ntion of lamps, candlestick holders and lighter fabrics, which were\nmore representative of the changes being made to the decorative\narts themselves. New motifs were used, together with more\nnatural decorations in praise of a more joyful delicacy.\nIn the late 18th century there came a return of the more rigorous\nNeoclassicism which was to eventually supplant the Rococo style.\nThe clean lines of Neoclassicism created a style that seemed to\ncelebrate the glory of the Napoleonic Empire. Boiserie was soon\nmade from the carved dark woods of that period such as\nMahogany, often trimmed with brass and with simple decorations\nwith which only in the next century would once again succumb\nto a more richly embellished style. In England Boiserie was given\na typical 18th century Georgian treatment, with a blend of\nimpeccable taste and grand comfort. This style soon spread from\nEngland to set the fashion all over Europe for furnishing houses\nand palaces. As a result, towards the end of the 18th century,\ncame an eclectic style that was to last for the next two centuries.\nTaking the “liberty”, as it were, of reinterpreting the artistic\nshapes that already existed, and adapting these to suit almost\nany intent. Boiserie soon became a fixed feature in the history of\ndifferent styles. Solid and simple in the dining halls, or light and\nfeminine in the parlour, or with dark sombre shades for the library\nor lighter ones for the bedroom. Following the success of the\nParisian Exhibition of Decorative Arts held in 1925 came the\nbirth of Art Deco and with this Boiserie was again popularised\nwith many different interpretations soon finding their way into the\nhomes of everyone.
