Misfits
Nel 2007, Ron Arad scava, taglia
e modella sei cubi di poliuretano di
un metro di lato con l’intenzione di creare
un insieme di sedute componibili;
la condotta è libera, passionale, non
soggetta alle regole razionali della
progettazione industriale. Ogni singolo
modulo, pur mantenendo inalterate
larghezza e profondità, non trova
corrispondenza con l’altro: la continuità,
nell’irregolarità, è materica e formale.
Il risultato è un sistema di sedute
scultoree di grande comfort definite da
volumi plastici ed irregolari; per i maestri
artigiani di Moroso, nel far aderire
alle linee curve e al gioco di pieni e
vuoti il tessuto di rivestimento, una sfida
manifatturiera.
In 2007, Ron Arad dug into, cut apart
and moulded six cubes of polyurethane
with one-metre sides in order to create
an interlocking series of chairs; they
are fiercely free and fiery, outside the
rational rules-based world order of
industrial design. Despite maintaining
equal width and depth, each individual
module does not align with the others:
in its irregularity, the continuity is in the
material and form. The result is a seating
system of sculpted and wonderfully
comfortable seats, defined by irregular
and flexible volumes; for the master
craftsmen of Moroso, aligning the
upholstery fabric to the curvaceous lines
and the play of solids and empty spaces
represented a mastery of manufacturing.
