Do-lo-rez è un progetto sviluppato
attorno alla trasposizione fisica
del pixel, da singola parte elementare
di un’immagine a modulo base di
un sistema imbottito. Costituito da
parallelepipedi morbidi a base quadrata
accostati tra loro in diverse altezze,
Do-lo-rez offre una libertà compositiva
che ne amplifica la modularità,
la esaspera fino a renderla strutturale.
I singoli moduli, apparentemente
molto semplici, nascondono un’elevata
complessità costruttiva: in basso più
rigidi, per contenere il perno metallico;
più morbidi nella parte alta, per garantire
il massimo comfort alla seduta.
Designed by Ron Arad in 2008,
the starting point for Do-lo-rez is the
physical transposition of a pixel, from
a single element of the base unit of an
image to basic module for a padded
system. Using soft rectangular cubes
with a square base in a range of heights,
Do-lo-rez takes the freedom of form
and elevates its modularity so far that it
itself becomes structural. The seemingly
simple individual elements conceal a
remarkable structural complexity.
Stiffer at the base, so as to hold a steel
pin, the blocks are softer at the top to
ensure maximum comfort.
