2005, la poltrona Smock promuove
la tecnica di ricamo utilizzata per
l’arricciatura del tessuto – il punto
smock – a incipit progettuale; fondendo
artigianalità e processo industriale, la
designer genera una figura sofisticata
ed elegante, capace di penetrare
l’universo simbolico femminile. Due anelli
diventano braccioli, ricordando nella
purezza dell’esecuzione stilistica una
bamboo bag; il guscio è un gilet aperto,
pronto per essere indossato, un’alcova
intima e accogliente. I ricami laterali –
a punto smock – rendono il drappeggio
delicato nello stile, leggero nella forma,
infondendo all’oggetto la grazia e la
raffinatezza proprie di un accessorio
personale.
Designed by Patricia Urquiola in
2005, the Smock armchair elevates the
embroidery technique used to drape
the fabric — the eponymous smock
stitching at the heart of this project;
blending craftsmanship and industrial
processing, the designer created a
stylish, sophisticated piece which feeds
into the symbolic feminine universe.
Two rings become armrests similar to
the simple style of a bamboo bag;
the shell is an open tanktop ready to be
slipped into, a comfy and welcoming
nest. The side embroidery — in
smocking stitch — renders the draping
contemporary, and give a lightness to
the form, giving the chair the grace
and sophistication of a classic fashion
accessory.
