PIPISTRELLO GAE AULENTI
Ho incontrato Gae Aulenti che ero ancora
molto giovane, prima che la trasformazione
della Gare d’Orsay in uno tra i più famosi
musei d’arte del mondo la facessero
conoscere al grande pubblico. Una donna
speciale, che nel tempo ho sempre più
ammirato avendo avuto modo di conoscerla
meglio in occasione dei nostri incontri. Grazie
alla condivisione di un comune amico venne
in azienda a presentare a mio padre una
lampada... il Pipistrello. La lampada non
era nata seguendo le mode del momento,
ma era stata progettata per lo showroom
Olivetti di Parigi. Si dovevano coniugare
l’innovazione dei materiali, il metacrilato, e
la sicurezza di una forma nota, l’abat-jour,
nell’eleganza essenziale dell’italian design
che in quel momento iniziava ad imporsi nel
mondo dell’arredamento. È questo forse il
mix speciale che sta alla base del successo
di una lampada che è divenuta una icona
del design internazionale, in produzione da
oltre 50 anni, e che si rinnova di continuo
con colori attuali, varie dimensioni e versioni
tecnologicamente all’avanguardia.
I met Gae Aulenti when I was still very young,
before the transformation of the Gare d’Orsay
into one of the most famous art museums
in the world made her known to the wider
public. A special woman whom I have come
to admire more and more over time, as I
had the chance to get to know her better in
the meetings we had. Thanks to a mutual
friend, she came to the company to show a
lamp to my father... the Pipistrello. The lamp
was not designed according to the fashions
of the moment, but was designed for the
Olivetti showroom in Paris. The innovation of
the material, methacrylate, and the security
of a familiar shape, the lampshade, had to
be combined with the essential elegance
of Italian design, which at that time was
beginning to impose itself on the world of
furnishing. This is perhaps the special mix
that underlies the success of a lamp that has
become an icon of international design, that
has been in production for over 50 years, and
that is constantly being renewed with current
colours, various sizes and technologically
advanced versions.
