Alpina, designed by Edward Barber & Jay
Osgerby, defines a new archetype for chairs
from a perspective of all-round sustainability
and opens another chapter in Magis’ constant
research into alternative materials to plastics.
The solid natural or stained ash wood (FSC®
certified) of the legs and seat is combined with
a 100% bio-based plastic backrest derived
from waste organic cooking oils. A green and
versatile material that is a conscious choice
for the future of our planet. It has excellent
properties, is durable and recyclable, and its
production reduces CO2 emissions by up to
40% compared to traditional plastics. It is also
suitable for both domestic and contact use.
This choice allows us to put waste back into
Alpina, the green future
2022
circulation as a new resource and, at the same
time, offers a high quality and durable chair.
“As designers we have a great responsibility to
adopt a sustainable and circular approach in our
working practice. First and foremost, we design
with longevity in mind... Every piece we launch
is meant to be passed down from generation to
generation.... The bioplastic used for Alpina is
a step towards a future in which all new design
objects are created from responsible materials,
with resilient and recyclable properties.”

Environmentally friendly, durable and 100%
recyclable. Once again Magis’ green ethos
comes to the fore.
