Yakisugi
WOOD’S FINAL IMPRESSION
Yakisugi celebrates the ancient Japanese craft of charring wood for
preservation, creating harmony between destruction and creation.
The result is a luminous sculpture that feels as if it were shaped by
nature’s own hand.
THE CREATIVE FORCE
The Japanese architect Kengo Kuma brings Yakisugi to life,
seamlessly merging traditional aesthetics with modern design.
Drawing on centuries-old techniques, he crafts pieces that embody
nature’s authenticity and tranquility, striking a perfect balance
between heritage and innovation.
BORN THROUGH FIRE
Through a distinctive process, molten glass is poured into wooden
molds, capturing the intricate texture of charred wood as it burns
away. Yakisugi evokes a quiet elegance—transforming spaces into
serene sanctuaries where light becomes a gentle reminder of
resilience and renewal.
