In the ongoing process of research that Kartell is developing in terms of materials and
sustainable production innovation, an important new partnership has been entered into
with the illy group. A second raw material is created from post-industrial waste pods via
a process of regeneration of the material, which is ground and returned to granule form,
gaining a new life. It can then be injected into the Kartell mould and used to generate
a design product. The collaboration with illy does goes beyond the mere supply of
recycled material to embody a new way of managing the circular economy between two
excellences. The quality of a mass consumer industrial product gives origin to an industrial
project that generates beauty and is itself based on quality. It took almost two years of
work to achieve the required quality standard and mechanics to create a product from
waste coffee pods.
