Chap. 2 — The defi nition of an identity
Study of the proportions of the Madre
diffuser. The lamp offers the possibility of
accommodating leaves or branches as a
decorative object.
Madre
Madre /2019, Gioia /2019 — design Andrea Anastasio
the designer, was conceived as “a jewel
designed to adorn the domestic space”.
Using a single ring, in a forced and almost
‘cheeky’ combination, the lamp brings
together the classical character of statuary
marble, in the form of a small fragment, with
the modernity of a larger disc of transparent
Plexiglas, softly coloured so as to make its
shape more evident. It is a collection that
exploits the contrast between a natural and
precious material and another synthetic
and accessible one, in a truly fascinating
dialogue. Everything is secured to the
wall by a small golden pin: the two moving
elements are thus reminiscent of the
oscillating rhythm of an earring. The
designer has also conceived Madre, a
poetic object packed with associations
which Anastasio describes as follows:
“Madre is the destination of refl ections
on light, its role, its essence. The form
alludes to the wide hips of mother
goddesses, the divinities that protect the
fertility of the earth. But also the vessel as
a container of life, because it was fi rst
created to contain food, rather than
fl owers”. The upper hollow of the large
luminous body of Madre contains a vase in
frosted borosilicate glass, in which to place
branches to create an elegant composition.
The opening, which interrupts the vase at
the centre, marks the boundary and
exchange between internal and external
light, joined together here.
