As its name suggests, Plass expresses
the desire to bring together the qualities
of glass with those of plastic (combining
the words plastic and glass), simulating the
rich and charming effect of light being
refl ected on a pearl of ground glass as the
sun’s rays shine on it. A tribute by the
Murano designer Luca Nichetto to the
tradition and culture of glass-making, with
a contemporary twist, as it makes use of
modern-day materials and processes.
Rotational moulding technology is used to
shape large volumes of transparent
polycarbonate – one of the fi rst examples
in the rotomoulding lighting sector – distin-
guished by an engraved surface with a plea-
ted effect, further embellished by a fi nish
marked by slight irregularities reminiscent
of the imperfections of the glass. These
bubbles of air – due to an initial phase of
experimentation in moulding – elevate what
can technically be considered a defect, but
is instead reinterpreted as added value,
since it is reminiscent of Venetian pearls.
So much so that when a way was found to
mould the piece without this imperfection,
the decision was made to reintroduce it
deliberately – by engineering its presence
in the moulding process – in order to obtain
the desired effect, which is even
emphasised by the double light source.
The scenic effect of the suspension
lamp is confi rmed by the possibility of
creating compositions, including with
different heights and dimensions, through a
multiple canopy. The same colours have
been used, sky blue and grey, as further
reference to the world of glass and its
chromaticism.
