About shedding light
Patricia Urquiola
Spanish by birth but then naturalised Italian, she lives and
works in Milan. She studied architecture at Madrid
Polytechnic and Politecnico di Milano, where she
graduated with Achille Castiglioni. Her projects range from
architecture, especially interiors, to art direction with
some of the most important design brands. Some of her
projects are exhibited in several museums and collections.
Together with Eliana Gerotto she designed the iconic
Caboche family of lamps and the Bague table lamp.
French designer, her creations combine softness and
precision of lines in the encounter between poetry and
industry. In her symbolic and formal universe, every
project is part of a communal whole. The success of
the Binic lamp, which was followed by Doll and
Chouchin, drew attention to her work. She in fact
designed the lamps installed on French high-speed
trains. In 2023, she was commissioned to create chairs
for the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris.
