Foscarini
He has been an English designer. After graduating in
furniture design from the Royal College of Art, he moved
to Milan in 1984 where he worked as a consultant for
Olivetti and Toshiba under the direction of Michele De
Lucchi and Ettore Sottsass. He became a partner of
Sottsass Associati in 1993, and later opened his own
independent studio. Stylistically characterised by
geometric formalism, in addition to his private activity, he
was a professor of industrial design at the Hochschule für
Gestaltung Karlsruhe. He designed the Haloscope glass
and aluminium fl oor lamp.
James Irvine

Lagranja Design
Industrial designer born in Turkey and professionally
trained in Italy. She trained at the studio belonging to
Ettore Sottsass in Milan. She is a partner of Studio
Koz-Susani Design, headquartered in Chicago. Her work
ranges from designing household objects to technological
devices, with a particular focus on the sensory quality of
materials. She designed the Dress lamp and the Circus
wall and ceiling lamp.
A multi-disciplinary design studio in charge of interiors,
outfi tting and product design based in Barcelona with
offi ces also in Istanbul and Singapore. Combining
teaching with industrial design, exhibition design,
commercial interior design as well as home and hotel
design. Founded by the Catalan Gerard Sanmartì and
the Paduan Gabriele Schiavon, who met at the Fabrica
research centre in Treviso. They designed the Uto
lamp, a novel type of illuminating object.
Biographies
Born in Palermo, after graduating in architecture, his
interest in the artistic avant-garde and radical design drove
him to move to Milan to attend the Domus Academy and
then start working with Andrea Branzi. His work has always
been mid-way between vision and reality, utopian openings
and product. He has for some time shared his time between
professional work and teaching at specialised schools and
universities. He designed the Quadro wall lamp and the
Quadralta suspension lamp, combining blown glass with
industrial glass.
Giovanni Levanti
Ferruccio Laviani
He graduated in architecture at Politecnico di Milano,
attending courses by Marco Zanuso and Achille
Castiglioni. He opened his own design studio in 1991
after a blossoming collaboration with Michele De
Lucchi. He thus embarked upon an intense professio-
nal period as a designer, graphic designer and
architect, designing objects, commercial venues,
installations, offi ces and residential accommodation.
Orbital, his fi rst lamp, was followed over the years by
Dolmen, Supernova, Lenin, Teorema, Aretha and the
more recent Tuareg, Uptown, Tobia and Tonda.

Lievore Altherr Molina
Studio Lievore Altherr Molina was set up in Barcelona by
Alberto Lievore, Jeannette Altherr and Manel Molina.
Its core activity is product design, interior design,
packaging, consultancy and artistic direction for several
companies, and it has received numerous international
accolades. They designed the Caliz family of lamps as well
as the Esa and Anisha table lamps.
