From the beginning, Stellar \nWorks has benefited from the strategy and dynamism of \nJapanese operations management, the high-end \ncraftsmanship of French furniture making and the technical \nproficiency of our Shanghai production team.\nWhen we opened our purpose-built factory in Shanghai, the \ncity was well established as an international hub for furniture \nproduction, but for many brands, its factories were centres of \nmass-market furniture making, dealing in low-cost, high-\nvolume manufacture with all the efficiency of the production line, \nbut little crafted character. A wealth of technical know-how and \ntraditional craft skill existed, but remained untapped. Japan \nand France both have a great tradition of hand-making, but \ntechnological advancement and the rise in outsourcing have \neroded the skills base in both countries. In Shanghai, we keep \nthose traditions alive.\nThe other great benefit of our production facility is the end-to-\nend control it gives us over the entire production process. \nBecause we assume complete responsibility for every stage, we \ncan custom-create pieces with an ease which many other \nbrands do not have access to and, more importantly, we can \nguarantee the sustainability of our furniture. Complete \ncontrol of materials sourcing ensures complete transparency – \nevery wood can be traced to the forest it came from, and every \nmetal, fabric and leather can be tracked to its source. It is \nbecause of this that all our materials lead to final pieces that are \nsimultaneously unique in aesthetic, and stringent in quality.\nOur role as a preserver of the past extends beyond our \nproduction methods. The most obvious example would be our \nvintage lines, which keep the iconic designs of 20th-century \ngreats, such as Vilhelm Wolhert and Carlo Forcolini, in \nproduction, with a few material updates appropriate to the \nmodern day. But Stellar Works’ signature collections too, could \nnot exist without the aesthetic histories they pay tribute to. Look \nover our contemporary furniture ranges and you see glimpses of \ndesign movements from across the 20th century – a touch of \nBauhaus crafted functionality or the refined simplicity of \nmid-century Scandinavian – often seamlessly fused into the \nclassic forms and patterns of the Asian creative tradition. When I \nlook at a collection such as Lunar, for example, I see the patterns \nof time-honoured decorative arts from China refined into Nordic \nsimplicity and comfort by the Danish studio Space Copenhagen. \nDesigns and designers like these are the creative heart of our \ncompany. Without exception, they have an instinctive \nunderstanding of the Stellar Works mission and a talent for \ndrawing and combining creative inspiration and craft \ntechnique from multiple places and periods. It would be only \ntoo easy to end up with a product that didn’t work – a clash of \ncultures or a conceptual mismatch – but Stellar Works’ \ndesigners have a gift for harmony: they create furniture that is \nboth an extension of an existing tradition and the \nexpression of a new one.\nWe have chosen this path between the old and the new \nbecause I believe good design is timeless design. Trained by the masters of Italian \ndesign, he co-founded the acclaimed design firm Alias \nin 1979. Steeped in references to art, literature and \ncinema, his work is both iconic and functional. Each \npiece has a story and a raison d’être – embodying an \napproach to design drawn from a fascination with dreams, \nmystery and the unknowable. Forcolini is currently the \nvice-chairman of the Istituto Europeo di Design and lives \nand works in Milan.\nHallgeir Homstvedt\nBorn in Norway, Hallgeir Homstvedt holds a BA in \nIndustrial Design from Newcastle University in Australia. \nAfter graduating in 2006 he started working for the \nacclaimed design studio Norway Says before founding \nhis own studio Homstvedt Design in 2009. His works \nhave been exhibited in London, Tokyo, Oslo, New York \nand Milan, and his clients include some of the premier \nbrands in the furniture industry. He has picked up several \nawards over the years, including Designer of the Year by \nBo Bedre magazine in 2017.\nBassamFellows \nBassamFellows is a furniture & design house renowned \nfor its exceptional craftsmanship, distinctive creativity \nand character. Founded in 2003 by Australian \narchitect Craig Bassam and American creative director \nScott Fellows, the studio practices a philosophy of \n“total design”, a multidisciplinary approach to design \nand architecture that considers form and the whole \nenvironment at every scale. \nIn addition to numerous designs under their namesake \nlabel, BassamFellows has created furniture pieces for \nsome of the world’s most recognizable brands such as \nHerman Miller, Geiger, Starbucks Reserve Roastery, \nBally and McGuire.\nNeri &Hu\nCREATIVE DIRECTORS OF STELLAR WORKS\nStellar Works’ creative direction is overseen by the \nNeri&Hu Design and Research Office. In 2006, he founded his eponymous practice in \nVenice. In 2011 he moved to Stockholm, Sweden, to open \na second studio and he continues to live in and work from \nthis city. Over the course of his career, Nichetto has served \nas art director for many international design brands and \nhe has developed an in-depth knowledge of the design \nindustry. He has lectured and led workshops at various \nuniversities, including serving as a professor of design at \nthe Università Iuav di Venezia, as well as sitting on juries \nfor assorted international design competitions. Nichetto’s \nwork has been exhibited worldwide and has been the \nsubject of retrospectives in cities such as Venice, London, \nParis and Stockholm. He has been awarded numerous \ninternational design awards for his highly researched, \ninnovative design projects, which range across products, \nfurniture and accessories, as well as incorporating \narchitecture and exhibition design.\nFounded by Jun Aizaki, Crème is a multidisciplinary \ndesign firm based in the vibrant neighborhood of \nWilliamsburg, Brooklyn. The studio is collaboration of \ndynamic, international designers that work around the \nidea that all design challenges require the same problem \nsolving approach. Crème tackles a chair, a restaurant or \na building, the same way they would approach a logo or \na street block.\nCrème has developed a contemporary wood and \nsteel chair inspired by the traditional Windsor form. By \nexchanging the traditional wooden spindles and stretcher \nof the Windsor back with steel, Crème has produced a \nnew chair that feels both contemporary and traditional at \nonce. This exchange suggests the new life and design \nthat can be breathed in to used or well-worn objects and \nfurnishings. Aside from the tradition spindle back, Crème \nhas designed several other backs that can be substituted \nin to fit any design. Custom backs, multiple wood species \nand steel finishes are available.\nMichele De Lucchi\nArchitect. Michele De Lucchi was a prominent figure in \nmovements like Alchimia and Memphis. He has designed \nfurniture for the most known Italian and European \ncompanies. For Olivetti he has been Director of Design \nfrom 1988 to 2002. He realized architectural projects in \nItaly and abroad, including cultural, corporate, industrial \nand residential buildings. For Deutsche Bank, Deutsche \nBundesbahn, Enel, Poste Italiane, Hera, Intesa Sanpaolo, \nUniCredit and at other Italian and foreign banks he has \ndesigned working environments and corporate image. He \ndeveloped important hospitality projects in Tbilisi (Georgia), \nBeijing (China), Rokko- ̄san (Japan) and various part of Italy. \nHe has planned buildings for museums as the Triennale di \nMilano, the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome, the Neues \nMuseum in Berlin and the Gallerie d’Italia in Milan. \nIn 2000 he was appointed Officer of Italian Republic \nby President Ciampi. In 2001 he has been nominated \nProfessor at the IUAV in Venice. In 2006 he received the \nHonorary Doctorate from Kingston University. In 2008 he \nhas been nominated Professor at the Design Faculty of \nthe Politecnico of Milan and Member of the Accademia \nNazionale di San Luca in Rome. During 2018 Michele De \nLucchi was editor in chief of the new “Domus” magazine.\nJens Risom\nAn acclaimed designer, Jens Risom studied at Niels \nBrock Copenhagen Business College as well as The \nSchool of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen, along with \nHans J. Wegner and Børge Mogensen, where he \nstudied Industrial arts and design.\nJens Risom emigrated to New York In 1939 and after \nsuccess designing the majority of Hans Knoll’s first \nfurniture collection, he established his own design \ncompany. Jens Risom Design Inc. grew to be one of the \nthree largest furniture companies in America, with offices \nspanning to Argentina, England and Australia. Signature to the \napproach at OEO Studio is their exquisite level of \nbespoke design created with meticulous attention to \ndetail.\nNic Graham\nAustralian interior designer Nic Graham has headed  \nhis own design practice in Sydney since 1999, working on \nprojects spanning the residential, commercial and  \nhospitality sectors.\nThrough their work across the Asia-Pacific region, \nGraham and his small team of architects, technical \ncraftsmen and landscape designers have developed a \nreputation for their interdisciplinary skill set and holistic \napproach. Their designs are contemporary, often \ndrawing on retro inspiration to incorporate a sense of \nwarmth and comfort – a ‘soft’ take on modernism.\nSebastian Herkner\nSebastian Herkner (born 1981) studied Product Design \nat HfG Offenbach University of Art and Design. During \nhis studies he began to focus on designing objects and \nfurniture, honing his keen sense for materials, colors \nand textures. For a short while he then worked for Stella \nMcCartney in London. In the year 2006 Sebastian \nHerkner founded his own studio. Since that time, he \nhas designed furniture, lamps and smaller items for \nmanufacturers such as Ames, and Tradition, Cappellini, \nClassiCon, Dedon, Ex.t, Fontana Arte, Gubi, Linteloo, \nMoroso, Pulpo, Rosenthal, Schramm Werkstätten, Thonet, \nWittmann and Zanotta. Herkner also realizes interior \narchitecture projects and museum and exhibition design. \nHis works have won numerous accolades – among \nothers the IF Award, the Iconic Award and the Elle Deco \nInternational Design Award (EDIDA). As Guest of Honor \nto imm cologne 2016, Sebastian Herkner provided the \ndesign for “Das Haus”. Maison&Objet has elected him \n2019 “Designer of the Year”. \nNendo\nChief Designer and Founder of nendo. \nOki was born in 1977 in Canada and received M.Arch.  \nfrom Waseda University in 2002. Establishing design \nstudio “nendo” upon his graduation, Oki has been \ndesigning in various fields- from small stationary to large \npublic architecture. Working across Europe and Australia, Tom \nFereday went on to found his sole practice in 2012.\nA prolific architect and designer, Vilhelm Wohlert \n(1920–2007) trained, and later taught, at the Royal \nAcademy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. Alongside his \nwork designing and restoring churches and royal castles, \nhe is especially celebrated for the design of the Louisiana \nMuseum of Modern Art in Humbaek, Denmark, to which \nhe and his partner Jørgen Bo devoted more than 30 \nyears.\nWohlert’s furniture and lighting have become design \nicons, thanks to the way they often employ structural \nelements to create sculptural effects.
