She went on to get a PhD  \nin Environmental Design. “I started designing small functional objects”, she says.  \n“I wanted to analyse products, understand where the biggest environmental impact \nwas, and redesign them so they were environmentally-friendly”. Il suo modo di fare design trova \nnella cura la sua origine e la sua finalità. \nIn questo senso, il suo è un approccio \ndecisamente femminile. “Penso sempre  \na come verranno usati gli oggetti”,  \nspiega la designer. Privilegiando l’estetica \ndel sentire all’estetica dell’apparire, \nRaffaella Mangiarotti non cerca l’effetto \nsorpresa che una forma insolita può \ngenerare e la sua attenzione è rivolta  \nalla relazione che s’instaura tra l’oggetto  \ne il suo utente, che sia immediata e \nintuitiva. Per Pianca ha disegnato Palù,  \ngruppo notte composto da una panca  \ne da un comodino che si apre prima verso \nl’utente e poi verso la stanza. Il comodino \nsi posiziona di solito parallelamente al \nletto e guarda dritto davanti a sé. Palù \nruota invece verso il letto, si fa usare prima \ndi indicare come. The dominating feature of the bed, the curved \nheadboard, cocoons the main body of the bed in an inviting, material embrace, \noffering protective, reassuring shoulders. The version without an underbed \nstorage container can accommodate a recessed mattress.
