However, the wall that protects \nPedrali’s new automated warehouse designed \nby CZA in Mornico al Serio does not aim to be the \nrepresentation of its inner content - a perfect \nmechanism, where the path for the robot carts \ncuts through the shelving structures like a canyon \n- but rather to be a visual screen that responds \nto the diverse conditions of the surrounding \nlandscape.\nOver time, Pedrali’s success as a business and \nits awareness in the field of production cycle \nsustainability has generated a building complex of \ngreat environmental quality, within a landscape \nwhere the agricultural matrices are still strongly \npresent. The mass of the new automated \nwarehouse, whose height and volume are \ntotally determined by its inner technical devices, \ncompletes the southern side of the complex and \nflanks the path of the ancient Via Francesca.\nThe architectural response of the new warehouse \nreacts to the abstract theme of “wrapping” the \nmachines it contains with a specific response \nthat is strongly related to the context, to solar \norientation and to the industrial complex it \nbelongs to. Its primary solid mass is articulated by \ntwo volumetric projections. The first, in its south-\nwest corner, concludes the visitors’ path inside the \ncomplex and picks up the direction of the canal \nthat forms the western boundary of the perimeter. \nThe second projects out from the north-east \ncorner with a daring cantilever, stripping back \na part of the warehouse wall to reveal its inner \nmechanisms through a large glass plate, giving \nform to the missing side of the large loading \nyard and providing a visual target point from the \nentrance to the offices on the northern margin. \nA lower body connects the new warehouse to the \nexisting ones, and hosts the long green ribbon of \nthe suspended visitors’ path.\nAll four sides of the new warehouse are faced by \npanels in natural aluminum colour. On these, a \nseries of simple elements made with extruded \naluminum profiles generates a visual pattern \nformed by a combination of vertical and oblique \nlines, like gigantic “blades of grass” that give \nrhythm, scale and measure to the blind and \nunarticulated surface of the facades, especially \nthe large surface to the south. These elements \nhave been left in their natural aluminum colour \non the side oriented to the east, looking towards \nthe urban core of Mornico, while the western side, \nwhich faces the fields and the artificial canal, has \nbeen enameled in three different shades of green.\nThe interplay of the length, direction and intensity \nof the shadows of these “blades” over the course \nof the day, combined with the mix of their colour \nand the diversity of point of view they can be \nseen from, generates a true “optical spectacle” \nof great beauty. The reflection of the tones of the \ncoloured sides on the opposite ones left in natural \naluminum colour generates a very peculiar \niridescent effect - similar to the one of the wings \nof a butterfly or the elytra of a beetle - for those \ntravelling on the road from east to west.\nThe dull and uniform volume of new warehouse \nis thus transformed into a visual phenomenon \nrich in variations, a kind of natural “amplifier” of \nthe time of the day and the seasons. In certain \nmoments it dissolves into the misty sky, reflecting \nits grey-blue tones, and in others it becomes \nimbued with the bright green of the agricultural \nfields in spring. The architectural design of the\nwarehouse and its related spaces goes beyond \nthe concept of pure “environmental mitigation” \napplied to many industrial facilities. Instead, \nit becomes an important signal of the roots of \nPedrali and the people who work there in their \nspecific territory, as well as testifies their ability \nto dialogue with the increasingly Pedrali\nDue figure retoriche riappaiono continuamente \nnell’architettura della prima età della macchina: \nquella del telaio strutturale a vista e quella della \nvetrata continua. Ma la parete che protegge il \nnuovo magazzino automatico di Pedrali a Mornico \nal Serio disegnata da CZA non vuole tanto essere la \nrappresentazione del suo contenuto interno - un \nmeccanismo perfetto, dove il percorso dei carrelli \nrobot solca come un canyon la struttura degli scaffali \n– quanto piuttosto una quinta visiva che risponde \nalle diverse condizioni del paesaggio circostante. Il \nsuccesso aziendale di Pedrali e la sua coscienza nel \ncampo della sostenibilità dei cicli di produzione ha \ninfatti generato nel tempo un complesso edilizio di \ngrande qualità ambientale all’interno di un paesaggio \ndove le matrici agricole sono ancora fortemente \npresenti; la mole del nuovo magazzino automatico - \nla cui altezza e volume sono totalmente determinati \ndal suo funzionamento interno - ne costituisce il \ncompletamento sul lato sud, e lambisce il tracciato \ndell’antica via Francesca. La risoluzione architettonica \ndel nuovo magazzino vuole quindi rispondere al tema \nastratto della “carterizzazione” di una macchina \nindustriale con una risposta specifica, fortemente \nrelazionata al proprio contesto, all’orientamento \nsolare, e all’insediamento produttivo al quale \nappartiene. Il parallelepipedo primario è così inflesso \nda due aggetti volumetrici: il primo, in corrispondenza \ndel suo angolo sud-ovest, raccoglie il percorso \nvisitatori all’interno del complesso e riprende il \ntracciato della roggia che costituisce il confine ovest \ndel perimetro; il secondo - che esce con un ardito \nsbalzo dall’angolo nord-est, spelando una parte della \nparete del magazzino per svelarne il funzionamento \ninterno attraverso una grande lastra di vetro - forma \nil lato mancante del grande piazzale di carico e \nscarico e si dà come traguardo visivo dall’ingresso \nagli uffici sul margine nord. Un corpo di raccordo, \nche ospita il lungo nastro verde del percorso sospeso \nper i visitatori, connette il magazzino ai capannoni \nesistenti. Tutte le quattro pareti d’ambito del nuovo \nmagazzino sono rivestite in pannelli coibentati lisci \nfiniti in color alluminio naturale; sopra questi, una \nserie di elementi semplici realizzati con profilati di \nalluminio estrusi generano un pattern visivo formato \nda una combinazione di linee verticali ed oblique, \nquasi dei giganteschi “fili d’erba” che ritmano e \ndanno misura alla superficie cieca e inarticolata delle \nfacciate, in particolare la grande superficie a sud. \nQuesti elementi sono lasciati nel colore naturale \ndell’alluminio sulla loro faccia orientata ad est \n- quella verso il nucleo urbano di Mornico - e invece \ncolorati in tre diverse tonalità di verde sul lato ovest, \nquello rivolto verso i campi e la roggia. Il gioco della \nlunghezza, direzione e intensità delle ombre di \nqueste “lamelle” al cambiare delle ore, combinato \ncon il loro mix cromatico e con la diversità delle viste \nfrontali e di scorcio al quale il nuovo magazzino è \nsoggetto da punti di vista diversi, genera un vero \n“spettacolo ottico” di grande suggestione. Un \neffetto particolare è quello della riflessione dei \ntoni cromatici dei lati colorati sulla faccia opposta \ndi quelli lasciati color alluminio per chi percorre \nla strada da est verso ovest, che genera una sorta \ndi effetto cangiante, simile a quello delle ali di una \nfarfalla o delle elitre di un coleottero.\nIl volume sordo e uniforme del nuovo magazzino \nè così trasformato in un fenomeno visivo ricco di \nvariazioni, una sorta di “amplificatore” naturale delle \nore del giorno e delle stagioni, che in alcuni momenti \ndissolve il volume nel cielo nebbioso, riflettendone i \ntoni grigio-azzurri, e in altri si carica del verde acceso \ndei campi agricoli primaverili.\nIl disegno architettonico del magazzino e dei suoi \nspazi di pertinenza supera così il concetto di pura \n“mitigazione ambientale” con cui molte strutture \nindustriali sono trattate, diventando un segnale \nimportante del radicamento di Pedrali e delle persone \nche vi lavorano in un territorio specifico come quello \ndella Bergamasca e al contempo della loro capacità di \ndialogo con mercati e realtà sempre più globali.\nCino Zucchi\n",31,{"image":138,"text":139,"number":140},"\u002Fmedia\u002Fimages\u002F4d\u002F3d0d8b15261a6e6252fb829872f52c-29036d3ea7.32.png","62
