Certo, \nanzi. Sono spesso sentimenti irrazionali ad accendere \nil desiderio di innovare, di superare i confini dello \nstrettamente necessario. Questo principio ci ha guidati \nlungo la realizzazione dei nuovi modelli 2024, volutamente \nmolto diversi fra loro. La collezione Xū segna la seconda \ncollaborazione con Neri&Hu, uno dei più influenti studi di \narchitettura a livello mondiale. Nel leggere la loro ultima \naffascinante monografia, Thresholds: space, time and \npractice, mi sono reso conto di quanti concetti abbiano \ntrasposto nel loro progetto per Ento: in un complemento \ntecnico come la maniglia, hanno saputo condensare uno \ndei temi a loro più cari, la conservazione della memoria \nculturale del proprio Paese, la Cina, a partire da uno dei \nmateriali da costruzione più rappresentativi della loro \nsocietà, il bambù.\nIdee di progetto\nDei pregi di questa pianta si è detto tutto e forse il suo \npotenziale non è ancora esaurito, ma i due architetti ne hanno \nestratto anche un valore simbolico. Xū è modellata come una \nsezione del fusto, distesa e appiattita nella parte alta, in modo \nche la cavità interna della canna diventi una parte visibile e \nacquisti sia una funzione pratica che una valenza estetica.\nLa sezione accompagna la naturale curvatura della mano, \noffre una sede per il pollice e consente uno spessore molto \nridotto sull’intera maniglia e, quindi, un risparmio di materiale. \nUn materiale, l’ottone, usato da pochi nel settore, ma che \na oggi è sinonimo di qualità vera, tangibile. Il mio progetto, \nStelo, è un omaggio a questa volontà imprenditoriale. \nDalla godronatura eseguita al tornio, che si estende senza \ninterruzioni sulla presa, fino alla complessità della giunzione \ncon il collo, tutto è pensato per mostrare la bellezza di questo \nmateriale, le sue possibilità tecniche, il saper fare dell’azienda \ne delle persone che ne fanno parte. \nPoetical manufacturing\nIs there room for emotion in the industrial process? Absolutely. \nIt’s often these very emotions that fuel our desire to innovate,\nto stretch beyond the boundaries of the strictly necessary.\nThis very principle guided us in crafting our latest 2024 models, \ndeliberately distinct from one another. The Xū collection marks \nthe second collaboration with Neri&Hu, one of the world’s most \ninfluential architectural firms. In reading their latest fascinating \nmonograph, “Thresholds: space, time and practice”, I realized \nhow many concepts they have transposed into their design for \nEnto. In a technical complement such as the handle, they were \nable to condense one of the themes they hold most dear, the \npreservation of the cultural memory of their country, China, \nusing one of the most representative building materials of their \nsociety, bamboo.\nDesign ideas\nMuch has been said about the merits of bamboo, and yet, its \npotential may not be fully realized. The two architects, however, \nhave found a symbolic value in this plant. Xū, shaped like a \nsection of bamboo stem, elongated and flattened at the top, \nreveals the inner cavity of the cane, merging practical function \nwith aesthetic appeal. This design feature not only follows the \nnatural curvature of the hand but also provides a comfortable \ngrip while minimizing thickness over the entire handle, thus \nsaving material. A material, brass,used by few in the industry, \nbut which today is synonymous with true, tangible quality.\nMy design, Stelo, is a tribute to this spirit ofinnovation.
