Mostra \nInternazionale di Architettura di Venezia.\nCino Zucchi - curatore del Padiglione su \nincarico del MiBACT - ha infatti progettato \nun grande portale in Cor-ten acidato. \nIl portale, affettuosamente chiamato \n“Archimbuto” per la sua forma che risuona \ncon lo spazio esistente e accoglie i \nvisitatori alla mostra, valorizza \nle potenzialità espressive del metallo,\ncon l’individuazione di una speciale finitura \nche esalta il tipico spettro cromatico \ncompreso tra grigio, marrone e bluastro  \ndel ferro. Il progetto sigla l’ulteriore \nsviluppo della profonda sintonia tra \narchitetto milanese e azienda veneta \nall’origine, due anni fa, dell’installazione \n‘Copycat. Empathy and Envy as form-\nmakers’ realizzata nell’ambito della 13. \nBiennale di Architettura, unico progetto \nitaliano segnalato con Menzione d’Onore \ndalla giuria internazionale della mostra.\nQuest’anno, De Castelli trova con il \nportale disegnato da Zucchi non solo \nun’eccezionale location espositiva alle \nspalle delle seicentesche Gaggiandre \nsansoviniane dell’Arsenale e poco lontano \ndalla straordinaria, metallica gru idraulica \nottocentesca da poco restaurata dal \nMiBACT, ma anche l’ulteriore impulso \nper proseguire l’indagine delle ampie \npossibilità espressive del metallo \nattraverso l’innovazione dei processi \nproduttivi artigianali, che da sempre \ncostituisce la caratteristica fondamentale \ndell’azienda fondata a Cornuda da Albino \nCelato. Azienda che, pur valorizzando \nuna tradizione familiare che vede ben \ntre generazioni di fabbri, ha infatti \nscelto di discostarsi dalle modalità \ncorrenti di lavorazione del metallo \nallo scopo di offrirne una percezione \nassolutamente contemporanea, che alla \nscala architettonica e del design affina \ninsieme le più evolute frontiere industriali \ndel settore e le abilità artigianali proprie \ndella pedemontana veneta, innovando \nfiniture e processi produttivi anche grazie \nalla collaborazione con celebri designer \nitaliani e internazionali. The portal, affectionately \nnicknamed “Archimbuto”, the ‘Archi-funnel’, \nbecause of its shape which harmonizes \nwith the existing space and welcomes the \nvisitors to the exhibition, enhances the \nexpressive potential of the metal, thanks \nto the development of a special finish that \nhighlights the typical colour range of steel  \n– from gray to brown to blue. \nThe project marks yet another step forward \nin the excellent understanding between \nthe architect from Milan and the company \nfounded in the Veneto region, which began \ntwo years ago with the installation Copycat. \nEmpathy and Envy as form-makers’ \ncreated for the 13th Architecture Biennale, \nthe only Italian project that won an \nHonourable Mention from the international \njury of the Exhibition. This year, the portal \ndesigned by Zucchi offered De Castelli \nnot only an exceptional exhibition venue, \nbehind Sansovino’s seventeenth-century \nGaggiandre in the Arsenale and not far \nfrom the extraordinary nineteenth-century \nmetal hydraulic crane that was recently \nrestored by MIBACT, but also a further \nstimulus to pursue its experimentations into \nthe wide range of expressive possibilities \noffered by metal, innovating the hand-made \nproduction processes that have always \nbeen the distinguishing characteristic \nof the company founded in Cornuda by \nAlbino Celato. However Nuel’s is a quite unique \ntake on harmony. Every element – whether \nvisible or invisible – comes together like \nthe notes in a great symphony played on \nthe atmosphere of the place itself. \nAs you go deeper into this hotel every \nelement pulses with the beat of the city’s \n– perhaps ailing – heart, always providing \na total sensory perception of being at one \nwith the city and what it represents. \nJean-Philippe Nuel gathered his inspiration \nfrom Marseilles and the Mediterranean Sea. \nThe uniqueness here is its subtlety, the \npresence of the city and the sea is always \nfelt but never overpowering. An interior \ndesign project which is true to the nature \nof Marseilles in a setting so charged with \nhistory. Traditionally the Hôtel-Dieu was \nopen to all and the new decoration makes \nno attempt to disguise the building’s \norigins. Nothing is done to redress it in \nthe style of the other grand 19th century \nbuildings of its kind in the area. The design \nsucceeds in uniting the kind of rarefied \nelegance one would expect from a 5-star \nhotel with the identity of the city where \neverything is proudly understated.\n \nLOBBY\nThe lacquered fish sculptures and carpets \ncombed like sand bring the Mediterranean \nSea into the building, evoking the mineral \nnature of the city and the Calanques. \nThis combines beautifully with the work \nof Bernard Pictet, a true artist with glass, \nwhose creations recreate the reflections \nand light of the sea. His sculpted glass \npanels in the entrance are like virtual \nwindows on the sea, drawing the gaze.\nThe ceiling lantern presents a view of the \nfaçade of the old Hôtel-Dieu and is the \nonly purely architectural item in the space. \nThis piece acts as a kind of axis and is \ngiven focus by the columns which break \nup and support the space. \nCompleting the composition is series of \nlarge vases, like amphora, which were \npurpose designed for the project. This \nis not a historic space. There is no high \nceiling, no ornate frames nor any of the \nother design elements typical of a classic \nbuilding. This is the base of the building \ndug into its own hill and looking up. \nThe large swathes of stone and slate add \nyet more to the range of colours, recalling \nthe city’s famous Basilica and Cathedral, \nthe Notre-Dame de la Garde and the \nCathèdrale de La Major.\n#HOTEL INTERCONTINENTAL\nArchitetto: Jean-Philippe Nuel\nMarsiglia, Francia\nFoto: Eric Cuvillier\nUNA BELLEZZA “MINERALE” \nVarcare la soglia di un luogo progettato \nda Jean-Philippe Nuel qual è l’antico \nHôtel-Dieu di Marseille, dal cui restauro \nè nato l’ hôtel InterContinental, è come \nsperimentare un sito in totale armonia con \nl’ambiente che lo circonda, ma attraverso \nuno sguardo particolare. E’ capire che \ntutti gli elementi – siano essi visibili o \ninvisibili – dell’ambiente e degli interni \nsono come le note di un’abile sinfonia, \ndata dall’atmosfera del luogo. \nPenetrare in quest’hotel è come percepire \nil cuore di Marsiglia battere in ogni suo \nelemento, e procurare a ciascuno dei \nnostri sensi l’impressione di essere in totale \narmonia con la città e con quello che essa \nsprigiona. L’ispirazione di Jean-Philippe \nNuel, che prende spunto dalla città di \nMarsiglia e dal mar Mediterraneo, esprime \nla sua unicità per mezzo di evocazioni \nsottili, affermando la propria identità senza \ncadere nella caricatura. \nQuesta architettura di interni scaturisce \ndall’espressione stessa di Marsiglia, in un \nluogo emblematico e carico di storia. Il \nprogetto di architettura di interni tende così \na mescolare la raffinatezza associata ad un \nalbergo a 5 stelle con l’identità del luogo, \ndove volutamente nulla viene ostentato. \nL’Hôtel-Dieu storicamente era aperto \na tutti e la decorazione non cerca di \n“camuffare” il luogo, niente è fatto per \n“travestirlo” seguendo gli standard dei \npalazzi del genere propri del XIX secolo.\n \nLOBBY\nIl mar Mediterraneo viene incessantemente \nevocato dall’espressione della mineralità \ndella città e dai calanchi : nelle sculture di \npesci smaltati o nei tappeti pettinati come \nla sabbia. Possiamo inoltre apprezzare \nil lavoro del mastro vetraio Bernard \nPictet  per esprimere il riflesso e lo scintillio \ndel mare: dei pannelli in vetro scolpiti, \npiazzati nella prospettiva dell’ingresso \nfungono da finestre virtuali sul mare, \npermettendo la fuga dello sguardo. \nLa vetrata sul soffitto che offre una veduta \nverso la facciata dell’ Hôtel-Dieu dal basso \nverso l’alto è il solo elemento portato \ndall’architettura. Svolge funzione di asse \ndi composizione, messo in risalto dalle \ncolonne che strutturano ed organizzano \nlo spazio. Dei vasi monumentali, quasi a \nfare l’occhiolino alle anfore e disegnati \nappositamente per il progetto, corredano \nla composizione. Lo spazio non è storico: \nnon ci sono altezze sotto il soffitto, né \ncornicioni, né altri elementi tipici del \nvocabolario classico, ma, al contrario, \nviene assunto a base del palazzo \nincastonato nella collina. L’importante lavoro di restauro, \na partire dalle vetrine di grande qualità, \nrende il negozio un punto di attrazione \nper i veronesi e per un pubblico \ninternazionale raffinato.\n… da fuori, nello stesso momento, si \npercepiscono la vetrina sospesa, la \nprofondità del negozio e il piano food \nsottostante …\nIl pubblico, entrando nel department store, \npercepisce una ricchezza di situazioni \ndiverse: l’atrio d’ingresso con i suoi ponti \ne le vetrine sospese, il piano food al di \nsotto con l’enoteca e le diverse proposte \ngastronomiche di altissima qualità, l’ampio \npiano terra composto da zone di accessori \ndei marchi più prestigiosi e, come quinta, \nla vetrata interna del Grand Caffé Excelsior.\nExcelsior è un luogo emozionale dove \nesperienza della merce e stimoli visivi \nportano ad esplorare tutto lo spazio. \nIl contenitore si presenta con una sobrietà \nsofisticata che fa emergere l’identità del \npro-dotto: elementi scenografici sono \nutilizzati per attrarre e sorprendere il \nvisitatore, sottolineando la continuità tra \nExcelsior e avanguardia. Una clientela alla quale si somma \nquella interessata ai prodotti DOC e IGP di \nun territorio celebrato da decenni per la sua \ncapacità di confezionare salumi pregiati, \naceto balsamico, Parmigiano Reggiano e \nper la vocazione vinicola che cosparge la \nterra di piacevoli filari di viti, arrampicati sui \ndolci pendii prossimi agli Appennini. \nE’ in questa realtà che il Boiardo Hotel\u002F\nRistorante 1495 si afferma quale struttura \nricettiva dedicata all’uomo d’affari, al quale \nriserva un’immagine contemporanea e \ninternazionale, per quanto contestualizzata \nmediante i numerosi dettaglicitati. \nL’equilibrio è una risultante complessa tra \nla tensione vivace a fissare indelebilmente \nuno stile distaccato e la volontà superiore di \ndarne un significato intimo, intrinsecamente \ncollegato alla regione, alla sua storia e alle \nsue singolarità. In questo senso la vicenda \ndell’ “Orlando innamorato” trascende il solo \nricordo dell’autore e viene impiegato, dal \ndesigner Simone Cagnazzo, come spunto \nper recuperare gli stilemi cromatici vigenti \nal momento della stesura del poema, \nadattandoli alle linee pulite degli arredi: \nla tonalità moka\u002Frossastra scelta per gli \nimbottiti della hall, per le fioriere, per i \nmobili contenitori, per le testiere del letto è \nla medesima che caratterizzava gli ambienti \ndelle dimore del quattrocento descritte \ndal Boiardo. Un colore associato al nero e \nsoprattutto al panna, che crea un’atmosfera \nmorbida accentuata dall’illuminazione calda.\nIl lavoro di Interior Design per Boiardo \nHotel e il Ristorante 1495, durato tre anni, \nha coniugato due aspetti fondamentali \nper il complesso, il forte legame con il \nterritorio e la sostenibilità architettonica.  \nUn particolare riguardo per gli ambienti \ncomuni lo troviamo negli interni nella \ngrande Lobby area del Boiardo e nell’area \nLounge del 1495, zone dedicate alle \npersone che lavorano, che viaggiano, e che \nsi incontrano in spazi dedicati al convivio \nin cui sono presenti due librerie De Castelli \n“Existence”realizzate su misura. \nL’esperienza Boiardo, ha come obiettivo \nil coniugare tradizione, tecnologia e \nsostenibilità, questi concetti sono stati \nmiscelati, grazie ad una progettazione \nintegrata, per essere percepiti nel loro \ninsieme, creando il valore aggiunto che \ncaratterizza il Boiardo Hotel \u002F 1495.\n#BOIARDO HOTEL\u002F1495\nInterior Design: Simonecagnazzo\nScandiano, Reggio Emilia\nFoto: Davide Bartolai\nThe strategic location of the hotel within \nthe best known ceramics production area \nin Italy makes it the perfect destination for \nbusiness clients who come for trade fairs, \ncompany events, to close contracts or \nwork on new projects. Alongside these are \nguests looking to enjoy the many DOC and \nIGP products from the area’s rich culinary \nheritage including some of the finest \nsalamis, balsamic vinegar and Parmigiamo \nReggiano cheese. The area also has a \nlong tradition for wine-making and the \nlandscape is charmingly embroidered \nwith vines which adorn the hillsides leading \nto the Apennines.  \n \nAgainst this backdrop the Boiardo \nHotel\u002FRistorante 1495 takes its place as \na contemporary, international business \nhotel fully in keeping with local traditions. \nThe challenge was to achieve a balance \nbetween the energy needed to create a \nstriking yet subtly nuanced atmosphere \nwith an intimate feel, intrinsically linked \nto the region, its history and uniqueness. \nDesigner Simone Cagnazzo took \ninspiration from one of Boiardo’s best \nknown works Orlando Innamorato \n(Orlando In Love) using colours and \ntextures from the 15th century when the \npoem was written and adapting them\\to \nthe clean, simple lines of the furniture \nand fittings. The mocha-reddish tones \nchosen for the soft furnishings in the \nlobby, for the flower pots, for the room \nfurniture and for the headboards, is the \nsame as that on the houses so deftly \ndescribed by Boiardo. \nThis colour is used against black and \ncream to create an inviting atmosphere \nwhich is then enhanced by the warm \nlighting scheme.\n \nThe interior design project for the Boiardo \nHotel and the 1495 Restaurant, which took \nthree years to complete, was built around \ntwo key aspects: the Hotel\u002FRestaurant \ncomplex’s strong ties to the local area and \narchitectural sustainability. \nParticular care was taken with the common \nareas in the large lobby of the Hotel and \nthe Lounge in the Restaurant.
