MATER FAMILIAS COLLECTION
La collezione nasce nell’ambito di Architecture of Shame, progetto di Matera Capitale Europea della Cultura
2019, con lo scopo di indagare le relazioni tra Architettura e Vergogna.
Mater Familias è dedicata al ruolo della donna e all’antica cultura materana del vicinato: il piede a forcella ha
la forma dell’utensile usato dalle donne per tirare le corde su cui stendere il bucato, le cuciture perimetrali
richiamano quelle dei sacchi di grano e di farina, le imbottiture evocano i materassi cuciti dalle donne e i
cuscini sovrapposti raccontano la stratificazione della cultura millenaria di Matera, la struttura è accogliente
e richiama la solidarietà del ‘vicinato’.
The collection was conceived within the Architecture of Shame project (Matera, 2019 European Capital of Culture),
aimed at exploring the relationship between Architecture and Shame.
Mater Familias is dedicated to the role of women and the ancient culture of neighborhood life in Matera: the forked
leg mirrors the tool used by women to pull the ropes for hanging laundry, the perimeter stitching evokes the seams
of grain and flour sacks, the padding references the mattresses sewn by women, and the stacked cushions tell the
story of the layered, millennial-old culture of Matera. The structure itself is inviting, reflecting the solidarity of the
‘neighborhood’.
