Ravenna takes inspiration from
the layers of mother of pearl
inside shells. The typical design
of this precious material is
recreated through a jacquard
technique using shiny yarns –
silk, acetate, viscose – alternated
to matt linen ones. The large
wavy design adds movement to
this fabric named after the Italian
city of Ravenna, famous for the
mosaics of the Byzantine period
which often featured mother of
pearl tiles.

A striking composition of calla
lilies alternates with a macro
alligator scales design, almost
giving the illusion of flowers
growing on a stone wall. The
volume of calla lilies is given
by a special weaving process
that makes the flowers three-
dimensional compared to the
flat background, where lines
defining the animalier texture
are entirely embroidered. The
repeat refers to the flowers
only.
