Herauszuheben aus den Entwürfen der
Nachkriegszeit, die im Projektgeschäft
erfolgreich wurden, sind zunächst der von
Eddie Harlis entworfene Sessel 652 sowie
das Stuhlprogramm S 800 von Hanno von
Gustedt für Konferenzräume.
Als sich in den 1970er Jahren Kunststoff
auch in der Möbelbranche ausbreitete,
landete Thonet einen Clou mit dem Stuhl
„Flex“ von Gerd Lange: Dieser war von
Anfang an nicht als Einzelstuhl sondern als
flexibles System geplant, welches sich
durch Reihenverbindungen, Stapelfähigkeit
und Variantenvielfalt auszeichnete.
In den 1980er und 1990er Jahren eroberten
der komfortable und elegante Polsterstuhl
S 320 sowie das hinterbeinlose Konferenz-
Stuhlprogramm S 73/S 74 die Versamm-
lungs- und Besprechungszimmer. Als der
von Norman Foster 1990 neu gestaltete
Deutsche Bundestag im alten Reichstags-
gebäude in Berlin eröffnet wurde, kamen
mehrere Thonet-Modelle zum Einsatz,
u.a. auch der S 43 von Mart Stam für
die Fraktionsräume.
The post-war designs that became a suc-
cess in the project business and have to
be mentioned are the chair 652 by Eddie
Harlis and the chair programme S 800 by
Hanno von Gustedt for conference rooms.
When the use of plastic moved into the fur-
niture industry in the 1970s, Thonet land-
ed a hit with its chair programme “Flex”
by Gerd Lange: from the onset it was not
planned as an individual chair but as a
flexible system that was characterised by
row linking, stackability and a range of
versions.
In the 1980s and 1990s the comfortable
and elegant upholstered chair S 320 and
the cantilever conference chair programme
S 73/S 74 conquered the assembly and
meeting rooms. When the German Bundes-
tag redesigned by Norman Foster was in-
augurated in 1990 in the former Reichstag
building in Berlin, several Thonet models
were used, among them the S 43 by Mart
Stam for the parliamentary group rooms.
1992 war die Tischanlage S 1000 die erste,
bei der Beine und Tischplatte getrennt
werden konnten, um modulare Tischkonfi-
gurationen zu bauen, was völlig neue
Möglichkeiten in der Konferenzraumgestal-
tung eröffnete. Aus diesem Entwurf ent-
wickelten die Designer Lepper Schmidt
Sommerlade das erfolgreiche Programm
A 1700, dessen Evolution Sie in dieser
Broschüre später noch erleben können.
Auch im letzten Jahrzehnt rüstete Thonet
unzählige Konferenzräume, Säle, Fortbil-
dungseinrichtungen, Hotels und natürlich
Cafés und Restaurants aus – vorne dabei
der von Delphin Design entwickelte Reihen-
stuhl S 360, der durch seine platzsparende
und kaum sichtbare patentierte Verkettung
schnell zum Bestseller wurde. Thonet im
Projektgeschäft ist eine Geschichte, die stän-
dig fortgeschrieben wird.

In the past decade, Thonet also furnished
countless conference rooms, halls, educa-
tional institutions, hotels and, naturally,
cafés and restaurants – headed by the
row chair S 360 developed by Delphin
Design, which quickly became a bestseller
due to its space-saving and almost invisible
patented linking technique. Thonet in the
project business is a story that is constantly
progressing into the future.
