Designer Spotlight
KELLY WEARSTLER
The Rug Company is an
incredible, world class team
with an ethos rooted in luxury
and great design. The highlight
for me has been working with
founders Christopher and
Suzanne Sharp who have given
me the opportunity to combine
their craftsmanship with my
design vision.
My favourite rug is the
Tracery, which is one of our
first collaborations and
really represents creativity
through textiles.
DIANE VON FURSTENBERG
I have rugs from the
collaboration all over my house.
They’re a reminder of what we
were able to create but also
set the tone for new memories,
and I love that there is always
a recent memory in which the
designs are present.
I can’t imagine being any other
rug than the Climbing Leopard,
which is embedded with things
I like - climbing and a desire
to be a leopard. It’s special
because we made it together.
MARY KATRANTZOU
I loved working alongside The
Rug Company’s in-house team,
taking their advice on what has
been successful for them in the
past and trying to filter those
values through our own design
signatures. The most incredible
part was seeing how accurately
my vision was translated into
the final collection. It really was
a dream process.
If I were a rug, I’d be Sunray
Pink, which draws inspiration
from the sun and its rays. I
always think of the sun as a
symbol of optimism, and it’s
arguably one of the strongest
symbols as it made life on earth
possible. Nothing unites and
gives us a sense of oneness in
the same way; it gives warmth
and light, and in many cultures
it symbolises female power. It’s
something that always guides
me in life.
ALEXANDRA CHAMPALIMAUD
My fondest memories of The
Rug Company date all the way
back to its inception. I know the
founders well and have been
an enthusiastic supporter since
day one, especially when they
decided to open in the US.
If I were a Rug Company rug,
I would be Kelly Wearstler’s
Channels Indigo. It is a modern
pattern that can only age well.
RODARTE
Our highlight was working
on the Marble rug because it
required so much attention to
detail and it was a complicated
process to make it perfect. To
this day, we are thrilled to see
how the marbling techniques
from one of our earlier
collections were brought to life.
We’d be the California Poppy rug
because we’re from California
and love seeing the flowers in
bloom. Our mother originally
made the poppy artwork that
inspired the rug, so it has a
very special place in our hearts.
Every time we see the design,
it reminds us of her incredible
creativity and spirit.
