Choosing the perfect rug can be tricky. Here, our
design experts share their knowledge of rug sizing
and placement so that you can focus on the fun part
- selecting the perfect colour, pattern and style.
THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN CHOOSING
YOUR RUG SIZE
Positioning and balance
The size of a room does not necessarily determine
the size of a rug. Instead, think about where the
furniture is positioned. A well-proportioned rug
will unify separate elements and pull the room
together. Rugs can also be used to create balance
in a less symmetrical space and to zone open-
plan areas. Ask our experts for advice.
Doors and air vents
Sufficient clearance above a rug and below doors
is important, particularly when steel frames
and fire doors are in use. Also, consider the
positioning of practical features such as air vents.
Sockets and cables
Access to floor sockets for lamps and data
cables can be arranged and factored in as part
of an installation.
Size and comfort
Our rugs are wonderful to walk on, so for the full
underfoot experience and to maximise comfort,
make sure there is a generous amount of rug
around the edges of a bed or to the edges of
a corridor.
Borders and patterns
Rugs with borders tend to have a more traditional
feel and can help to define a space. Conversely,
patterns that run to the edge of a rug look more
contemporary and can make a room feel larger
and more relaxed.
