TORUS by Umberto Bellardi Ricci
In the factory that produces his prototypes, Umberto Bellardi Ricci sees for the first time
the elbows of the ventilation ducts, joined in groups of four and wrapped in crossed
ropes. They have a curious shape, similar to that of a donut, and become a source of
great inspiration for him. He calls them torus and reinterprets them as the basis for these
singular poufs with overlapping volumes, in which industrial materials find a new aes-
thetic and function alongside soft and refined finishes.
Nella fabbrica che produce i suoi prototipi, Umberto Bellardi Ricci vede per la prima vol-
ta i gomiti dei condotti di areazione, uniti in gruppi di quattro e avvolti da funi incrocia-
te. Hanno una forma curiosa, simile a quella di una ciambella, e diventano per lui fonte
di grande ispirazione. Li chiama torus e li reinterpreta come base di questi singolari pouf
dai volumi sovrapposti, in cui materiali industriali trovano una nuova estetica e funzio-
ne accanto a finiture morbide e ricercate.
