Cosmati Collection

Cosmati is the name of the ornaments characterizing the XII and XIII century Roman marbles
workers, who for centuries embellished the most important churches and noble palaces in Europe,
by variegate and multiform polychrome marble marquetries. Rotations and symmetries follow a
perfect mathematical order. A deep study of the cosmatesco mosaic has allowed Sicis to interpret
this art in an evolutionary way and to create the “Cosmati Collection”, with marble, glass, gold
and other materials, grown as one of the most appreciated selection for architects and designers.
Sicis through a constant research, wanted to emphasize the beauty of the precious and refined
embroidery, developing a new collection of textiles. New horizons arise for the décor, already well
known during Byzantine period. Now we can find this decor as completion of armchairs, sofas or
many other furniture and home items.
Si chiamano Cosmati gli ornamenti caratteristici dei marmorari romani del XII e XIII secolo, che
abbellirono per secoli le chiese piu importanti d’Europa e palazzi nobili, mediante tarsìe marmoree
policrome di forme svariate e fantasiose. Rotazioni e simmetrie, secondo un ordine perfettamente
matematico. Uno studio profondo del mosaico cosmatesco ha permesso a Sicis di interpretare quest’arte
in maniera evolutiva e di creare la ‘Collezione Cosmati’, in marmi, vetri, oro e altri materiali, diventata
negli anni una delle piu apprezzate da architetti e designer. Sicis attraverso una costante ricerca, ha
voluto enfatizzare la bellezza del prezioso e ricercato ricamo mettendo a punto una nuova collezione
di tessuti. Nuovi orizzonti si aprono per il decoro già noto in epoca bizantina che ora possiamo trovare
a completamento di poltrone e divani o in molti altri arredi e decorazioni.
