2. Reflectance
understood as the Solar reflectance index (RSI), since there are
different interpretations for reflectance according to the regulatory
framework.
Relevant only externally as it is a property that simulates the
behaviour of a surface when exposed to sunlight only. A building
material with a high reflection index laid outdoors allows to reduce
the “heat island” effect.
This is also relevant as it allows to obtain points under the LEED
protocol or other environmental sustainability standards. Now,
thanks to the fact that the surface of the laid mosaic is composed for
approx. 25% of grout, it is also possible for dark colored mosaics
(which normally would have a low RSI solar reflection index) to
counterbalance with grouts that have a high index and obtain a
relatively high result for a dark colored surface.
