How to preserve the beauty of luxury wool carpets
Avoiding common mistakes when cleaning luxury wool carpets is crucial to preserving their beauty. The incorrect use of
carpet beaters and harsh detergents can cause significant damage. While carpet beaters are suitable for synthetic fibres,
for luxury wool carpets, handmade with delicate knots, they can be harmful, loosening essential knots.
Similarly, the use of overly aggressive detergents can damage the wool, altering the colours of the carpet. We recom-
mend the use of special wool cleaners or professional products specially formulated for luxury carpets.
Only in this way will it be possible to maintain the beauty of the pile and the original design, while preserving the quality
of the artefact. It should be noted that our handmade carpets may have small imperfections that contribute to their
authenticity.
SICIS textile creations are the result of a constant commitment to the highest quality standards. Nevertheless, it is advi-
sable to ensure proper care through regular maintenance and compliance with the cleaning instructions detailed below.
Preventive Maintenance
During the first few months, the carpet may show an initial loss of material in the form of lint, a common phenomenon
in carpets made from natural materials. This characteristic tends to gradually fade over time.
Depending on the intensity of footfall, it is recommended that the carpet is vacuumed as often as follows
. daily for high traffic areas;
. fortnightly for low traffic areas and private residences.
Correct vacuuming
Avoid waiting until the carpet shows obvious signs of soiling. For proper vacuuming, make 3 to 5 slow passes over
each surface. Pay particular attention to areas with high footfall, such as entrances, bars or shops. You can use a hoover
equipped with a brush or a cylinder brush to lift the hair while maintaining the surface appearance. The brush must be a
cylindrical type; other models or stiff brushes are not recommended. Make sure the hoover is in optimal condition and
maintain it regularly. Please note: The use of individual hoods and brushes is not recommended.
Protection of sensitive areas
In order to prevent the accumulation of dirt and contain the spread of any stains, we recommend the use of temporary
mats or rugs placed at the exits of kitchens or entrances to public buildings. It is essential to maintain and replace these
devices regularly. It is also suggested to change the direction of the carpet twice a year and to avoid direct exposure to
sunlight or moonlight.
Depending on the intensity of traffic, a thorough cleaning should be carried out once or twice a year:
Injection-extraction method
All substances adhering to the carpet fibres are thoroughly removed. We recommend the use of a multifunctional hoo-
ver equipped with a non-foaming detergent and a quick-release action. For best results and to preserve the integrity of
the carpet, it is advisable to rely on professionals for the use of such machines. After treatment, wait until the carpet is
completely dry before walking on it.
Using dry shampoo
This cleaning method involves applying a powdered detergent to the surface of the carpet. Once the dust has penetra-
ted the fabric, remove the excess using a hoover.
It is essential to carefully follow the instructions supplied with the product (a preliminary test on a non-visible part of the
carpet is highly recommended).
As a general rule, we recommend that you hire a specialised cleaning company to ensure the best results in the mainte-
nance of your valuable carpets.
